Installing Footwell Lighting

Just purchased a footwell lighting kit from Painless----includes lamps & door jam switches---wanted to use the existing jam switches, but find batt & ground are present with switch open(doors closed)---guess this is to power dome lamps when doors closed & you move dome lamp to on position----if I wire into existing jam switch, footwell lamps are on when doors are closed. I'm sure others have installed footwell lites---how is best way to hookup lites??? Don't want to install a seperate switch for the footwell lites. Any help/suggestion appreciated. Thanks
