108720 & 108721 - adhesive or just held in place without?

These are the rubber strips that go down along the rear quarters and which the louvres rest on when closed. Mine are a little dried out and I thought it might be a nice thing to replace.

I was wondering if the intention was for them to be glued in place somehow or are they meant to simply snug on and then are held there naturally, just due to the shape of the rubber pinching around the edge of the stainless?

    Thanks!

You glue them on. The top is the biggest pain in the butt because there isn't much surface area for it to go on.

I used 3m black trim adhesive for these. Works well.

I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to be glued on. Just a snug fit. If you have the luggage rack mounts fitted, you have to pull the rubber off to raise or lower the mounts.

I have a luggage rack and I have those sections cut out. I know other owners that have done the same.
A few years ago I replaced my old ones and they were glued on.

Personally I think (especially if you are a OCD perfectionist), that 3m VHB tape is your best option. A lot has changed in the past 40 years and you have options other than RTV these days.

I have replaced a lot of gooey, lumpy, unsightly RTV with adhesive tape but I use the good stuff.

Well, I think if anyone wanted it to look the best possible, they would be following your lead I'll pick-up some of that tape you mention. I have RTV too and you're right about it being sloppy and messy. I'm not a very good "less is more" kinda guy lol. Thanks.
