What have you done to your DeLorean today?

I've been working on the same project in my car. 4" in front, 5x7" in back, 8" sub in storage compartment, amp in the frunk, single DIN in dash. Everything is a tight fit. There nothing easy about it, if you're trying to do a clean/professional looking install. Beginning to second guess my decision to embark on this project. Unfortunately, I prefer high quality audio and the stock system just doesn't make the cut.

In retrospect, I probably should have gone with the highest end speakers I could so I wouldnt have to change them again. Any reason you went with 5x7 instead of 6x9? I'm assuming 6x9 dont fit?


I started cleaning the frame and removing rust off of it. I had to cut into it to access inside of it...

6x9s won't fit behind the stock side panels. I was originally going to build/purchase a custom speaker box for the back panel to fit 6x9, but ultimately decided to keep a stock appearance. Technically, 4x10 and 5x7 have about the same surface area, but the 4x10 are much more prone to distortion because of their irregular shape. There are also many more options when going with a 5x7. I have a bandpass filter on the 5x7, so it only produces mid frequencies, to keep the sound stage in front of the car. It's not a bad idea to put a highpass on the 4" and a lowpass on the sub. A lot of the newer amps have these features built-in.

Did you end up installing the 4" between the dashboard and the fiberglass frame? It makes it hard to ever replace the speaker, but that's the only way I could figure to do it.

Bought a DMCMW steering wheel pad off of a Facebook DeLorean Group last week. Popped it on yesterday - I didn't realize it would look this great and be rather soft

The plug with a Light Green wire goes to the full throttle microswitch.
The plug with a Light Green/Green wire goes to the Kick Down microswitch for automatics (if equipped).

Yes thanks. It’s really my fault I wanted to hurry the project so that I could go to the Christmas parade we have here in our town since there is no snow now. I always wanted to decorate the D in a Christmas theme and maybe put a little pine tree between the open doors or something...

I might just put everything on hold until spring, as hurrying things up on a « restauration project » is rarely a good thing. -11 c brrr.
