Over past week I installed upgraded power window motors (now silky smooth and silent), replaced door lock solenoids with Toby's actuators (solenoids were fine so no change, just the assurance I wont have problems), installed door release actuators ready for future (or the past!) security system, and while at it traced and split off the redundant solenoid ground ready for the Wings-A-Loft.

Unfortunately shakedown cruise #16 was a disaster - couldn't get more than a few seconds down the road without stalling, sometimes unable to start again for lengths of time, and while I did manage to limp back into the driveway that was her final death and I couldn't get going again even to enter my garage. During this aborted test I quickly took the rear parcel shelf apart and tried fiddling with the harness where I had done the ground rewiring for above actuators, and did notice I could cause an immediate stall without attempting to drive further down the road/home by wiggling the wires leading to the engine bay. Without touching anything it seemed to happen whenever there was a bump in the road.

Figuring I had disturbed the 31 year old connectors when working with the wiring harness behind the relay compartment, I removed each of the plugs in the engine bay that fed off that rear harness and used a screwdriver to slightly bend each socket in the plugs to make a tighter fit. Had a similar issue with faulty front park/indicators when I disturbed the front harness to rewire my front perimeter lights and doing this to the sockets down there fixed it.

Started straight away, headed back out for shakedown cruise #17, went over the bumpiest streets I could find (not hard in this state!), and couldn't fault her. Phew

    New Alt Belt!

It was getting really embarrassing driving from downtown OKC where I work at 10pm on a Friday when all the people are out, and 4719 was squealing like a stuck pig.

Got that fixed yesterday, sounds great.

Put another 280 miles on mine this afternoon, In the process I have a new record for fuel temp: 136'F. At about the same time the cap on the coolant bottle shot off, coolant spiked up to 230' in a parking lot, It was a hell of a coolant geyser shooting out on to the louvers. I sorted that out with some water from the a nearby restaurant, then my angle drive cable bracket that mounts to the brake caliper broke off, Not a good day for 1768.

started off by re spraying the dash and glove box.
    installed new A-pillar trim.
installed new Alpine stereo, with bluetooth and speakers, memphis audio in rears and infinity in fronts
removed all the carpet and cleaned and power washed all the pieces.
installed one seat cover (other will go on on thurs night)
and also installed half the new headliners. never seen the headliners done how I did it so i wanted to see a D would look with them... suede, not the $160 a yard alcantara that lamborghini and ferrari are using

here are a few pics of my progress:

Wow, looking good! That's gonna be great when it's finished. I like the suede headliner, I'd love to see a shot in better light.

Sooo much better. Plus I ran the Bluetooth mic through the a-pillar so it won't be seen. I like the wireless Bluetooth audio so no wires anywhere. Plus making and receiving phone calls with my phone still in my pocket.

Went to a cruise night in Davis. Was joined by my wife and Clint with 1768. It was a good time, as always. These cruise-ins are remarkably chill with a good group of regular owners and a mostly respectful and friendly crowd. Plus easy access to great Mexican food afterwards...

Most interesting was the guy who came up to us as we were trying to leave and offered to buy both our cars for cash. I tossed a crazy number out and left, Clint stayed and chatted some more.

Some pics! There were the usual street rods, a really sweet E-type, two Opels that I was fascinated by and many more.

Yeah that was a cruise in, never had anyone seriously offer me that kind of cash for my car, I could sell 1768 and find another D in better shape to continue to fix. But it wouldnt feel right. I would need alot more money to part with my car, we've been through alot.

Sounds like a great event! The guy was serious? How much did he offer? Anything of mine is for sale for the right price. Glad you had a fun day!
