Last night I got one of my CV axles re-done. The boots, which were presumably original, were cracked and pulling away from the joint:

Let me just say, this job is a complete mess. Grease gets EVERYWHERE. Be sure to lay down some newspaper and wear gloves.

Once you get all the old grease out of the joint (I used a small bucket of mineral spirits to loosen up and break down the grease, then sprayed the parts with brake cleaner to clean them off), re-assembly is a piece of cake.

I used new Allen bolts from McMaster, which are easier to install and remove than the hex bolts. I took my time with this one side, so I can probably knock out the other side in short order. My CV joints should be good for another 10 years or more!
**I do need to address my output shaft seals at some point, as they are starting to show a little leakage, but that's a job for another day.

I installed the luggage rack option so that I could do this...
Sinclair C5 on DMC-12. Two Lotus chassis for the price of one.
Before anyone asks... yes it's well within the weight restrictions for the rack. I also cut a platform to mount to the rack to more evenly distribute the weight to the four corners after taking this picture. Quite stable.

I let 1121 initiate me. She threw her alternator belt. I was able to get her off the street and into a parking area. I found a belt locally, got it replaced, and drove her home. I did end up cutting the A/C belt. I didn't have ample light, space, or time to do that properly... but that won't be terrible to sort out with enough of those things.
These are the bolts I used.

You need 12 bolts for each axle. I bought 50 so I will sell a set of 25 at my next tech session I attend.

I bought 3 boxes of these, you need 24 but they come in boxes of 10:

They have a slight blue hue and are zinc plated. I also grabbed a pack of these:

New crescent shaped lock plates were supplied with the boots from DMCH.
