Really, you get to talk to a DeLorean owner and you lead with "how much did you pay." You don't have a more interesting question to ask that Google can't readily answer for you? Not to mention I'm a total stranger and that's just rude.
I don't think they mean to be rude I think the car is so iconic that in the back of their mind they are wondering "Can I Get One"? I always tell them:
You can get one that runs for 5-10,000 but it needs a lot of work
15-25 will get you a nice car but still needs some work
35-45 will get you a Really Nice car
and if you want to get a remanufactured one 60,000 or so.

After that they usually either ask more reasonable questions or walk away. I have run into some real assholes but 90% are ok
    Thanks,
    Lenny

    Stock "how much" response:

"It would be pointless for me to tell you what I spent on it, because I bought it so long ago and price fluctuates a lot. But there's always a DeLorean for sale somewhere if you look on the Internet."

Ever since I striped the paint from Red I get the "how much did you pay" question right off the bat. It used to be "Why is it red" or variations of "who painted it" and then they'd rarely ask about the cost.

So you infinitely increased it's value! Not to mention the stellar job you did.

I kinda like the cocaine jokes, and my overall attitude is that I wouldn't get any comments if I didn't have a DeLorean so I'm thankful for that.

Perhaps it is inappropriate for me to profile excited strangers, but I find that there is something about the way some of them make a cocaine joke that convinces me they are speaking from experience. I have stopped using "lines" when I talk about the hood for this reason.

I guess some people just want to talk about cocaine, it can be revealing and funny.

Don't do the crime (buy a delorean) if you can't do the time (machine jokes).

Thank you. I usually tell people that ask the money question that since the paint is gone now she's worth a bit more than what I paid for her.

More and more lately am I getting the cost question.

If I care I give them the rundown like Lenny said.

If I am in traffic or dont want to talk to them I just say "too much"

Mods...please split this post into a new thread titled: "Cocaine."

    Thank you,

    Rich
