Not really stupid... Actually I thought it was pretty clever.
I had to go to Platt Electrical Supply today to pick up a contactor for my house air conditioner.
I pulled up in the DeLorean. Parked and walked inside. From the office behind the couter I hear a voice yell out, "We don't carry flux capacitors or Mr Fusions."
I had to chucke at that one.

Something similar the first time I took the D to have the Eibach springs put on at a local shop. I pulled up, the service writer said "We don't work on flux capacitors."
"No problem. My car's the miser model," I said. I put the workshop manual and coil springs on the counter and said "How about suspension work?"
"That we CAN do," he said.

When I first purchased Red I had an AC issue. I took it to a couple of shops to see if they would even look at it. The first shop said "what's a DeLorean?" They looked out the window at it like I'd landed my UFO in their parking lot. The second shop said "That depends, does it have the Flux Capacitor?" They were the one that got my business. When I picked up the car the guy behind the counter said they loved having it in the parking lot. It got a lot of attention. He said more people drove through the lot or stopped to take pictures of it than anything else they've ever parked out there. That includes a couple of exotics.

Got my Porsche 997 exhaust tips today off ebay. The German seller asked what year my 997 was. I said it's for a delorean.
His response:
"oh it's that aluminum car from the Back to the future movie. I have seen that around at sports cars gatherings but that poor thing is a bit weak on the chest"
