I'd guess he was thinking along the lines of pedal to the metal with hair on fire...he just doesn't know what happens at 88 mph.

I remember "take it to the max" as an old 80s slang term. Usually it was said by the un-cool kids. That would be why I know it. I hung out with the un-cool kids.

It's an advertising slogan for one of the lotteries here too... (Lotto Max)
Sept. 81, auto, black interior
At my first car show last weekend (I won best in show, by the way) a dude and his girlfriend walk up and he says "That's stainless steel, they rust real bad" to which his girl replied "'yep, I see some there" while pointing at lord knows what, and then they turn and walk away as if in disgust!

Had mine over to another owners house Monday night. We were just standing outside near my DeLorean talking. A guy was walking down the sidewalk and shouts out across the street, "You going somewhere in that thing?!". I replied, "To the future!". The guy just smiles really big and keeps walking, not bothering us anymore. I apparently made his day by playing along. I knew what he wanted me to say, and I was in a good mood to oblige.

Oh boy! At what point do you guys have enough of BTTF lines from others?
Don't they realize that this is THE ONLY joke you may be hearing in that car? Not many originals out there I suppose.
