I'd guess he was thinking along the lines of pedal to the metal with hair on fire...he just doesn't know what happens at 88 mph.

The guy at the adjacent gas pump watched me for a while and as I was getting into the cra, he asked me what kind of car that was. "It's a DeLorean", I told him.

    His reply:

"well, take it to the max"

    OK, then......
I actually chuckled out loud at this one. Just strange....

+1. I'll have to file that one away for later use.

Agreed. All the more strange why people in the area I grew up used to say "own it."

I guess kind of like the "I could care less..." confusion.

EDIT: like this kind of confusion... lol

I remember "take it to the max" as an old 80s slang term. Usually it was said by the un-cool kids. That would be why I know it. I hung out with the un-cool kids.

It's an advertising slogan for one of the lotteries here too... (Lotto Max)

At my first car show last weekend (I won best in show, by the way) a dude and his girlfriend walk up and he says "That's stainless steel, they rust real bad" to which his girl replied "'yep, I see some there" while pointing at lord knows what, and then they turn and walk away as if in disgust!

Had mine over to another owners house Monday night. We were just standing outside near my DeLorean talking. A guy was walking down the sidewalk and shouts out across the street, "You going somewhere in that thing?!". I replied, "To the future!". The guy just smiles really big and keeps walking, not bothering us anymore. I apparently made his day by playing along. I knew what he wanted me to say, and I was in a good mood to oblige.

Haha, nice. I remember a guy rolled down his window beside me stopped at a light and said "how far you going?" I think he meant the same thing as your guy. It was one of the funnier ones I've had. Love the subtle comments

Oh boy! At what point do you guys have enough of BTTF lines from others?

Don't they realize that this is THE ONLY joke you may be hearing in that car? Not many originals out there I suppose.
