Some guy was ogling my car as I left the store and I'd already had a long stressful day, so I decided to have some fun. The conversation:

Guy: This is YOUR car??
Me: uh...yeah.
Guy: Holy crap! So you're a huge BTTF fan?
Me: What's that?
Guy: Um...it's a movie starring a DeLorean. About time travel.
Me: Oh okay cool. What's a DeLorean?
Guy: ...it's your car?
Me: No, this is one of those new Nissans. Those symbols on the grille are "Nissan" in Japanese.
Guy: No, I'm pretty sure it's a DeLorean. Your doors go up...
Me: No. This is just Nissan's attempt at the flying car. Between you and me, buddy, it's a complete bust.
Guy: My God. What a waste of an awesome car. (Stalks off)

I have a blog about what it's like being a DeLorean owner, and I got an email from a random lady yesterday:

"My son LOVES Back to the Future and is turning 4 years old on Saturday. He has asked for a Back to the Future themed party, and I thought that nothing would be cooler than a real DeLorean parked in front of our house when he wakes up on his birthday! I saw that you are in Utah, which is where we live and I know it's a long shot, but I wanted to see if there was any way we could borrow the car for a few hours! I would appreciate it so much if you would get in contact with me! [email protected]

Really lady? Do you randomly loan your cars to strangers for a few hours? I kindly let her know that my car is not operational right now. My coworker was blown away that someone would ask me that. I'm sure that would make his day, and maybe I'm a jerk, but I just don't trust people when it comes to that car.

Depending on how you handle it, it's not that crazy at all. A lot of owners loan their cars out (at a price) for events. I certainly wouldn't do it for free, but her request isn't THAT far out there.

I'm no genious, afterall I am the man without a brain, but it sounds like she is the BTTF fan and not him. I find it hard to believe a 3 year old would prefer watching a 25 year old film instead of whatever it is 3 year olds watch today.
