Bttf D's vins and build dates

Hey all. I know this has been covered in the past but I don't remember where. I know there were seven cars including the fiberglass model and the 2 vw conversions used in the films. While I'm curious which ones they all were. I'm mainly interested in the hero car from part one. Any help with this would be appreciated.

The one at Universal Hollywoood is 5261. It needs dire attention. Kevin Pike the guy who helped build it visited it a few months ago and posted detailed pics on his FB page.

This is what I have collected over the years. I'm missing a few VIN's, so someone could maybe fill in the gaps? And if there are faults in it, please let me know ...

    From BTTF I:

    - the A-car (VIN#05261) was used in the Twin Pines Mall chase scene and is currently on display at Universal Studios Hollywood on the tram tour.
    - the B-car (VIN#.....) "Amblin Car" was stored at Amblin until 1989 when they used it for part II & III. It was fitted with heat shielding and fuel 'nozzles' for the 'tyre trail' flame scenes. It got fake hover wheels for BTTF II that were used when it was hovering behind Biff's car at ground level. Unfortunatly, it was destroyed by the train at the end of BTTF III. The body panels were reassembled and are on display at the ceiling in Planet Hollywood. Some pieces where put on 2 replicas built by Jay Ohrberg. One is rotting at Universal Studios Hollywood in the backlot, the other is in decent shape at the Hollywood Casino in Tunica MS (on DeLorean VIN#04765).
    - the C-car (VIN#.....) was cut up for the interior shots and rotted on the backlot for years when it was eventually destroyed by Universal.

    From BTTF II & III:

    - VIN#06475 'Oxnard Car" was the hero car build for BTTF II & III and is currently on display at Universal Studios Florida. This car still has the welded rigs on the bottom for a second set of wheels that were used for the 'wheelie' stunt scene in 1885 (BTTF III).
    - Fibreglass DeLorean #1 was left for years in a warehouse and finally destroyed by Universal.
    - Fibreglass DeLorean #2 was destroyed during first day of filming (NOT SURE ABOUT THIS, SOME SITES SAYS TRUE, SOME SAY FALSE).
    - Offroader #1 sat on the Universal Studio Hollywood backlot for years when it went to Japan on display. This car was then purchased from Universal Studios by "ScreenUsed" and completely restored. More info at http://www.bttf3delorean.com/
    - Offroader #2 (VIN#01076) sat on the Universal Studio Hollywood backlot for years when a company called "Tom Talmon Studios" used parts off of this car, including the rear deck/vents to create the 'Universal Studios Japan' car. Whereabout of this car are unknow to me ... Maybe someone knows?

Here are a few of the pictures I have collected over the year. They are not mine, I found them on the internet, so if someone wants them removed, just let me know ...

Great post and pics Andy! Nice job. The BTTF 3 Desert Car (you refer to it as #1) is the car we just purchased in December of 2011 at the Profiles in History auction in Beverly Hills, CA. The vin # is 4689, an October of 81 build car. We are proud to own it and plan to share it with anyone who would like to see it. We will be attending the DCS in Florida in June and the car will be there! BTTF.com just posted this press release.....

Glad to hear one of those time machines has a better home now. Are you planning to keep it as it is or restore it to a regular car?

Thanks for the VIN! I've been trying to keep track of all DeLoreans that where used in the BTTF trilogy for a few years now ....

Anybody can shed a light on the rest of the missing pieces?

    - what was the VIN on the B- and C-car?
    - was there actually a second fibreglass DeLorean made?
    - where is VIN#01076, the second Offroader or 'Desert Car'?

It's nice to see that the 'Desert Car #1' has gone to a good home! Are you actually planning on driving it? Because I can imagine it isn't easy with that nose pointing to the sky ...

Thanks! This car will stay as-is, it is already restored to the way it was in the movie, just the way we like it! We have two other D's, another time machine and a completely stock original one to drive. This one, I hate to say, is a trailer queen.....

Hello Andy! I wish I could shed some light on the other vin #'s, but right now I have no idea. It is great to see that someone has taken the time to get this information and record it. We are very proud to own the "Desert Car #1", and I still am in awe that it is actually sitting in our garage. As much as I hate to say it, the only driving this will be doing is off and on a trailer....you are right about the nose, and that hood box does a great impression of a wall! It does run and drive though. It has a 1971 vintage VW Beetle drivetrain, a 1600cc dual port head example that originally put down a whopping 60hp. There are a few modifications to the motor, like a different Weber carb etc, all done when the car had the sand rail, off road chassis installed by Conejo Off Road for the movie. It also has a full roll cage, tied into the chassis, and a five point harness for the driver. They wanted MJF to be safe! Check out the website dedicated to the restoration of the car here www.bttf3delorean.com or our website for all of the cars here www.88mphtimemachine.com Thanks!
    Best regards,
    Patrick and Bill
