    Nick Fulcher - DeLorean Coachtrimmer

The UK forums have been posting about the recent death of Nick Fulcher, the gent who did the interior of the Visioneering car, as well as setting up the trimming of the interiors for the factory.

A Lotus employee until 1977 (when he set up N Fulcher Coachtrimmers) he was also responsible for the early Esprits (including the 007 one)

I did not realise that all this was down to just one man, and it is a little sad to just be learning about his skills now.

Here is their page on re-doing the interior of Pilot 20 for PJ Grady

Recently the company has re-trimmed around 3 UK cars

I don't always drive cars, but when I do, I prefer DeLoreans

No-one is to stone anyone, even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say "carburetor"

While Chris Nicholson was here in the States recently, we were discussing a lot of work that Chris and Nick
had accomplished on the Pilot car restorations, including re-creating Pilot seats and other interior parts.

Chris had also discussed Nick's failing health at that time. Very sorry to hear of his passing.

I first met Nick during the early days of the DeLorean programme. He quickly became a very close friend of Chuck Bennington, the first Managing Director of DMCL. Nick and Chuck styled the interior of the DMC12 between them over a 6 month period at Lotus and IAD. The syling buck at IAD in Brighton was Nick's work alone. He also spent many hours at Visioneering assisting them with the interior of their car. We were lucky enough to have Nick at the DeLorean Owners Ireland gathering two years ago.

Apart from the DeLorean and many Lotus cars including the Esprit he worked closely with many Formula 1 legends designing and tailoring their seats and steering wheels. Although I did not had the privilege of visiting his work shop in Norfolk I understand that it was filled with memorabilia of the Formula 1 days complete with photographs.

Nick was a truly gifted man - personable and even tempered - many of us that worked with him - which I did at DeLorean and Lotus will treasure our memories of the time spent with him.
