Don't wanna derail the thread, and I also can't find the post I remember that put it so well, but one of our very well seasoned electronically-savvy members said something along the lines of "a fuse is meant to open the circuit to protect electronics, how exactly is it an open circuit if it's lit up?"
You shouldn't be blowing fuses often enough to need that kind of quick identification, really. Once you get your wiring all in order you should never blow them at all.
