A looooong shot, vintage toy wanted

When I was 10-12 or so I had a toy fighter jet and I had so much fun with it, I would love to find one on ebay but I can't remember the name. Here is the description of what I'm looking for. This was a small fighter jet made of foam rubber. It was in color with plenty of detail and you launched it by placing the small plastic hook in a small plastic hand held handle with a rubber band on it(like a sling shot). I had a F-15 and I think a Mirage. The jet was about 6" long, around 1/72 scale. The handle was a flat piece of plastic with a rubber band on it. I think it was gray in color. The jest were a bluish/gray color and I think had a camo scheme on them. If anyone remembers the name let me know. I don't know why but that memory keeps coming back to me and I would like to find that toy again.

    Thanks

There have been many variations on this toy from various companies. I cannot think of a specific name, but similar toys like this are still available.

The cheaper versions can be found in grocery stores, usually for under five dollars. These are generic plane shapes or just 'gliders'.

The 'deluxe' versions can usually be found in hobby shops, like ones that sell RC planes/cars. You might be looking for these as they will most likely be licensed jets.

I know recently there was a version that has the rubber band in the plane, and you hook it on the handle to launch.

    Hey Michael,

Take a look at that thread and see if what they are describing from the aircraft carrier set is close to what you were thinking of.

Ohhh that's extremely close. The concept is dead on, the only difference is the type of jet used. I had 2 of them but I liked the F15 best. The size of the aircraft OS right, the hand held launcher in my memory was just a piece of flat rectangular shaped plastic. If I could only remember the brand.

Thanks but that's not it. These were just single jets, nothing big. The post above yours is very very close.

I do remember them. I had one that was a blue camo and a second one that was an orange camo. Was the foam sort of like the plane on this page? http://www.futureflyersclub.com/foam...plane-toy.aspx

Yes, and mine was blue camo too. Do you remember the name or company?

Unfortunately I don't. They were in my grandparent's toy room and probably were still there until my grandma passed and my scumbag uncle stole everything. I've been searching the net on vintage toy sites but so far I haven't seen them.

    Found!

Well I am very bored tonight and since doing anything in the garage or workshop has been out of the question with the temps, I got a wild hair and decided to investigate this more and after like 5 minutes I found them! I know it's only interesting to me, but I have had this thing for the last year or so to find some of my favorite toys from my childhood. As a kid, I was always very responsible with the toys I did have, but even boxing them and storing them didn't save them from one of my grandfather's cleaning sprees.

I will never forget one very windy day when I entertained myself for hours at a local park, (which I still frequent almost everyday to run in the warm days). Those little jets amazed me how well they flew. They flew like a well rounded brick most of the time, but in a stiff wind they were pretty awesome and probably seeded my love for aircraft and radio control today. I even considered going for my VFR license but decided that the cost was not worth the reward. Anyway, the company is Mattel and the name is "Flying Aces". As soon as I saw the red, white, and blue logo it clicked. I didn't have the ultra cool "flight deck" launcher, or the aircraft carrier. Mine used a simple hand launcher with a rubber band. You know it's obscure when you cant even find them on Google but I did find some in the completed ebay auctions, albeit the wrong aircraft. Now that I know what to look for I just will wait for ebay to supply me with another childhood memory. I know for sure I had a F-15 Eagle and a Mirage with blue camo patterns. I have never seen the commercial but it cracks me up...Look at all you can do! they go one at a time, or 2 at a time!

This is what I had, different aircraft, but same toy:
