DeLorean Limousine - Sketch to Stainless - Progress Photos

Yes...this is the Real DeLorean Limousine...from sketch to stainless.

This will be a General DeLorean Limo Progress Milestones thread, with photos.
I plan to re-create the more detailed threads as well, with associated photos.

For those of you that do not know (or need a re-fresh), my DeLorean Limo
idea was first sketched during DCS 2000 after I met JZD in person for the first
time. Although I had hoped to finish this project many years ago and I also
had hoped to give JZD a ride in it at a later DCS, neither happened before 2005.

Now, after creating a DeLorean Monster Truck (D Rex), a DeLorean Hovercraft
(and 3 appearances on Discovery Channel), a DeLorean Roadster (in re-fresh)
and a few other projects, it was time to give the DeLorean Limo some quality
time, and hopefully, this project will be nearing its completion soon.

So, to start off this thread, sketch to stainless, is a photo of the modified sketch
as of 2009 and a photo of the state of the stainless as of the Summer of 2010.

More threads, more details and more photos to come.

The Stainless Steel DeLorean Limo Frame - by PDC

It was not long after DCS 2000 that I sat down with Bryan and Reg Pearce
of Pearce Design Components, to put in my request for a full stainless steel
stretch limo DeLorean frame to be fabricated, in the early Fall of 2000.

After convincing both of them that I was not your average "nut job" thinking
about doing the "impossible", I worked with Bryan and Reg over a few months
worth of weekends, on the design and re-inforcement of the stretched frame.

By the Winter of 2000, Reg was already at work on the DeLorean Limo frame
and a stock SS frame, since I had to order at least two frames, to be able to
get all the parts fabricated, cut and bent, for the main project I had in mind.

I stopped by throughout the Winter, to check on the progress. Reg was still
working his full-time job at this point, so progress was made weekday evenings
and on weekends, as schedules (and the cold Winter weather) permitted.

By the Spring of 2001, both of my stainless steel frames were finished and we
"rolled out" both of them into the driveway at PDC, to take some comparison
photos. For reference, the DeLorean Limo frame has 20ft wheelbase.

Attaching a few of the photos below that were taken back in April 2001.

I guess I should have used a wide-angle lens on the last photo (attempt).

    Rich,

What are you planning on using as a power plant in the limo?

DeLorean Limo may debut (as a Work-in-Progress) at Woodward this year

Sorry for the reply delays...family matters taking top priority lately.
My mom has been in the hospital and she takes priority, as it should be.

Mom is doing better and she should be home soon, but I have not been
getting much sleep lately and no time for projects (or even the forum).

By the way, my mom is my biggest fan of the DeLorean Limo project.

I do plan on getting the exterior of the D Limo mostly done by mid August,
in time to display at Woodward, but the work schedule is on hold, for now.

If all goes well, the exterior will be mostly done and the D Limo will be loaded
into my custom 30ft enclosed transport trailer by Aug. 18, to make the trip.

I have a custom 3.0L PRV that may or may not be installed for this debut,
but either way, the D Limo will be "display only" this year (not cruizing yet).

D Limo Tow Combo - F350 and 30ft Custom Enclosed Trailer

Thanks to Dave and others who send their best wishes for my mom.

To answer another D Limo related question before it is formally asked...

    F350-w-30ft-trailer.jpg

Attaching a photo of my newer (it's newer to me) D Limo Tow Combo,
which is an F350 Ext. Cab Dually (5-spd) with a custom 30ft enclosed
trailer that had been previously used to both store and haul a dragster.
Low hauler and includes 10ft rear extension ramps on the ramp door.

The trailer is a little narrow, but I could not pass it up, for the price.
Included a winch, 7K Watt Generator, Roof A/C Unit, AC/DC electric
and new awning material installed (although the awning is only 20ft).
Also included a weight distributing hitch and anti-sway controllers.

It came with two spare wheel/tires, but I will most likely be swapping
out all the wheel/tires/spares. I had to replace the roof vent covers
and I painted the roof white (to keep the heat down inside), but I am
not sure if I will get the rest of the trailer re-painted before Woodward.

When the D Limo is finished, I may decide to tow it on the open trailer
again, but there are too many "loose parts" on the outside right now.

    16+ feet of trailer ramp(s)

Thanks T. Mom continues to get better, especially with my nephews
(her grandsons) making regular visits, to help cheer her up as well.

    As for the tow rig...

I do not have too many detail photos of the 30ft trailer and extended
ramps, but I did take one with my iPhone camera earlier last month.

Attaching photo of trailer, ramp door down, extended ramps deployed.

    30ft-trailer-ramps.jpg

Sorry, not a great photo of the interior, but you can see the ramp door,
ramp door adjustable "stands" and unfolded extended aluminum ramps.

Workbench and generator will need to be relocated to the very front of
the trailer or I may decide to remove one or both of these two features.
