Retail Price... ya learn a new thing every day...

I just received a set of DMC dealer window stickers (from '81 and '82) that I bought from DMCSeller on ebay. I found in interesting that in 1981, the cars listed for $25,000.00, but that price rose to $28650 in 1982. I didn't know that the prices changed when they were still for sale new.

Somewhere there is a video of, think James Epsey talking about that they were so popular that people paid over sticker price to get one.

It's also worth noting that it was initially planned to be priced at $12k. (Hence "DMC-12")

My VIN:    #5000 (Grey, manual, SS chassis, intercooled twin turbo), #16128 (Grey, auto, efi twin turbo), #888

In the beginning people paid over sticker to get them, then toward the end they were sold for much less (in general). The original owner of #16128 purchased hers brand new straight from KAPAC for $16K in 1984.

I remember reading that people paid way over sticker in the beginning, then way below in the later years. But never knew that the company raised the price between 81 and 82... and by close to $4k... that's a pretty big bump even by today's standards.

And then there's the sticker on 16647 which I bought new in 1983. It was $34,200 which was the highest I ever heard of. Shortly after I bought her I regularly ran across those Wall Street Journal ads for 12K ... somewhat disconcerting.

Any VIN numbers to go along with those window stickers?

People were paying dealers just to get on the waiting list. After DMC went bankrupt and Consolidated took over they were selling for just over $9K for a while.Somewhere there is a newspaper advertisement of it.

Yeah... VIN's on the window stickers are:

    10936
    10954
    05386
    05746

These stickers appear to have never been on a car. The adhesive is still untouched, and there's no dealer named on the top of the form. Does this mean that the cars with these VIN's didn't get window stickers? Or perhaps these were spares?

That's pretty unbelievable! Do you have a pic of that sticker online anywhere? The one I have for 3165 has it listed at 26xxx. I can't remember exactly. But I was under the impression that the MSRP never changed much beyond the 25K asking price.
