On another note, the CEO dude is expressing a genuine interest in the car and hasn't cracked a single BTTF reference other than admitting he saw the movie. The kid has a geniune interest, is asking questions, and is being bashed.

Frankly, I think the VIN question is somewhat valid. When I first got into these cheap plastic cars, I didn't understand what the big deal was about VIN numbers. Now I understand. Everyone has to learn somewhere.

Frankly, until this thread was created, I didn't even know that our current VIN system started in 1981. I think its pretty cool to know our cars were the first to use moderm VIN numbers.

I think I was 15 back then. Thats when I drove my first Delorean.

Edit: I was 15 years old. I've got a special place in my heart for young enthusiasts since I was once one.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is meant by this statement? I thought DeLoreans were fiberglass and stainless steel. I'd estimate 1-5% plastic by volume, if that. I'm sure Captain Carb of all people knows that though, so maybe this is one of those regional idioms I'm unfamiliar with?

Steve is paraphrasing the original Captain Carb, Bill R., who would frequently refer to them as such.

Whether you would equate fiberglass and plastic is another story.

Ah, so it's a cultural idiom. Thanks for the clarification!
