    New Steering Rack

Just got my daily driver back from DMC-CA... had some brake work done, and a new steering rack put in.

Holy smokes... that new rack made quite a difference! MUCH less slop (not surprising, since the original rack had about 139,000 miles on it), and it the steering feels so much more responsive (carving up Sunset Blvd. earlier this evening). What's surprising is that it feels a lot better than the steering on my low mileage D.

My rack was completely shot after 4 years and less than 15k miles. I noticed a huge difference with the new one but I sure hope it lasts longer.

Yikes! You only got 15k out of a replacement rack? Was it a NOS unit?

It was a NOS unit put on a remanufactured car. The new one was supposedly not NOS but rebuilt.

Wow... I hope you have better luck with the replacement.

I believe my new unit is not NOS... Hopefully it is more reliable that the stock ones. Though, again, the one I replace was original and lasted quite some time. I guess that build quality was just a lot more variable back then.

I have a newly manufactured one from DMCEU, installed 2 years ago, and yet I have some play I noticed this summer. I will inspect it this winter, it could have another cause.
