Does anyone have any advice as to how to prevent the seat-backs from coming loose and hanging off the seat?
It seems to be a fairly common issue....

You're right, it's a common issue. When I replaced my seats the seat backs would not stay secured until I took the seats out and made darn sure I had the backs positioned as far into the retaining brackets as they would go, especially the top one. When the backs are pushed all the way up in position and secured they will stay on ... believe it or not!

I removed my seat backs and surprisingly, none of the judges at DCS even noticed.
