    Cabin Lighting Fixture Upgrades?

Has anyone added different cabin lighting fixtures? I know many have used brighter LEDs, but I'm looking to go bigger. The stock lights seem small and dim compared to modern cars. My rear cabin light has always been hanging by its wire since a tab broke off, and it doesn’t even seem to fit. Ideally, I’d like something that’s larger, a little more modern looking, brighter, and LED. I’ve pulled my headliners, and want to weigh my options for replacing these yellowed plastic dome lights.

The back cut out was for some reason larger than the front. So keeping my light fixture from falling out I hot glued it in.

In regards to brightness, go SMD and you'll have plenty of light.

Remember, do not use the new Super Bright LEDs that use the switching regulator (two black cylinders on circuit board) if you want to use my dome light unit.

Here's a thread about how I used the largest SMD LED bulb that would fit in the stock fixtures without modifying them.
    http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?15...nterior-lights
They put out way more light then a standard incandescent bulb and best of all are cheap and easy to install. Here is a link to them directly on eBay (warning, eBay links don't last long, so don't wait or else you'll have to search for 3528 LED bulbs that match the picture in the thread above):

I also put large arrays under the dash to light up the foot-wells. Very similar to the pics posted above, but much quicker and easier to do while still giving plenty of light to find stuff inside at night.

Doing a search for N98B festoon resulted in only the bulbs similar to the ones you used, so once the eBay link expires, go to eBay, type in "N98B festoon" without quotes, and the remaining few results should have bulbs that look like this (re-using the attachment from that thread here):
    Attachment 398
The bulb in question is the bottom one, with a pattern of 4x4 bulbs (some of the results have a pattern of 4x3 or even 3x3). All the current results for that search are under $2, with the only 4x4 results being those that come in a package of two. Good find!

EDIT: Seems the attachment is misbehaving at times. If it doesn't show up, it's the first picture in this thread.

I like those rear side lights... I might have to investigate that.

For the front map light, I'm interested in something like this:

Looking closely at the pics it appears that car's front map light is a standard Houston unit modified to hold a 3x6 SMD array.
