Delorean Vendors - Next Generation
Delorean Vendors – Next Generation
I was thinking about the Delorean vendors/dealers I’ve been to since my dad purchased 02378 new in 1981 and wondered where my son would be going to get parts and service when he acquires a Delorean. There are quite a few vendors that are getting close to retirement age, I wonder what their succession plans are.
If I'm wrong on the age, forgive me, I'm just guessing.
DMC Houston – Stephen Wynn– I’m guessing his son will takeover and continue the main location in Texas. I'm guessing Stephen has another 8-10 years left running the business.
DMC CA – Don Steger –He’s getting close to retirement age, what’s his succession plan?
DMC Mid-West – Dave & Julee – Not sure how old Dave and Julee are but I’m guessing they’ve got about 10-12 years left before retirement. What’s their succession plan?
DMC Florida or whatever the name is now – Tony’s still pretty young so this is probably not a thought right now but still a good idea to have a succession plan.
PG Grady – Rob has been doing this since 1981. I’m guessing he’s getting close to retirement, wonder what his succession plan is if he has one? If I was a Delorean owner and lived in the North East, I’d be a little worried.
SpecialTAutomotive (Delorean Auto Parts, Inc.) – John Hervey is getting close to retirement so what’s his succession plan if any.
DPI - Haven't had enough experience with the business to comment.
Delorean One - Gone.
Will the future Delorean vendors have a DMC franchise or will they go out on their own? Who will my son be getting his parts from 20 years from now and what Delorean specific businesses will still be around?

Well Kirk, Since I am the youngest vendor out there and easily have 30+ years of work before retirement. I'm most likely going to be a contender!

Kirk,
you missed the announcement that DMCH has bought DMC-CA from Don (who will retire) and placed Steven Wynne's son, Cameron, to run it.

Then I definitely need to bring my son with me again to DCS. Hopefully you'll be there in 2014 to meet him since it's in your back yard.

Motors about after dark
Not everyone retires when society tells them to do so. My father in law is in his 70's...still goes to work everyday.

Seriously? I'm glad I asked these questions because I did not know that.

Fortunately, Don is going to stay on as a mechanic. But obviously he'll have have much less responsibility (nil) from a day-to-day business ops standpoint. That's a difficult thing for any company; particularly this one. When you have an employee that retires with over 30 years of experience in a field, you don't just replace that experience overnight when you hire a new employee. It takes a tremendous amount of time. Don's a great asset to the company, a nice guy, and I'm glad he'll still be around!
