The only way is to source the title or an older registration that you know to be from the car. Old service records may have it as well. If you are looking for proof however that your car is a certain vin, there isn't any except for the 2 vin plates....did you steal a Delorean?

Remove the rear bumper, and you may find the VIN or one very close to it written in sharpie on the rear of the frame.

The number sharpied on the back of my frame had little or nothing to do with my VIN *or* frame number. Just a warning

Didn't steal a car, but I bought one as parts with no paperwork or plates. I imagine it was an insurance loss car. So if I remove the rear bumper and there's a number on the frame, is it the actual VIN or is it just a number close?

Just a thought - what if you look at the frame # (driver's side welded on/near the rear frame extension) and engine # (plate riveted near the dipstick) and compare them to the registry that Shannon publishes? I bet you'd find your match.

That sharpied number is not so helpful IMO.

    Ah, the reclusive Vin XXX.

Do you want to find the VIN or prove the VIN.

If you have the frame # and or engine # you might be able to go through the DeLorean museum.

Perhaps then, if they have a window sticker or warranty card that has both VIN and another number you could work something out.

Did it never have plates or have they been removed?

Is it possible that the original plates are now on a different car?

No luck on the frame number in the registry. If I remember correctly, the engine number is forward of the driver's side engine mount on the block. Before I go crawling around underneath, can anyone confirm that?

Dermot, I think I may have to go through the Museum, even if there is a sharpied number on the frame if it's not definitely the VIN number. I would like to find out what the VIN number is because I am torn between fixing 891 or this car.
