Lightbulb 5992 Trip to Greece, Restoration and Speculations

Here is the thread I promised you.
Before I start may I send out my thank you's first off to member LordFly for giving me the heads up & direct contact details of Steven and Tony over in DMC Florida.
LordFly is the reason I own a DeLorean today.
Further on my thank you's go to Tony Ierardi for a wonderful service offered and the great deal he made me. Looking forward to further business with you Tony!

My best wishes to JohnZ frm Italy in fulfilling his dream soon and to any future DeLorean owner. May I say it is a great feeling having part of automotive history. Seize the day and get one TODAY!

Finally to my Greek friend, Pete Rosakis, who is a great sport getting the job done in dealing for a Car purchase & parts and shipping it over to Europe.

    -------------------------------
Having passed this Oskar's moment of "Thank the Lord and my family" I am commencing with the description on this threads' purpose.
    -------------------------------

As Vin# 5992 has just traveled on the back of the truck from DMC Florida to Fort Lauderdale Fl, it will be waiting for its que on the end of March, to be pushed into a container for the trip across the big pond, through the Gibraldar strait to land in the port Peiraus, Athens Greece some time early April.

So having a good month ahead, I will be posting images at hand on different fixes to be made, having your opinions on them and get a task portfolio ready to work on when the car gets here. Who said Greeks are not very good with organizing???

Plus, it is more fun to have a restoration thread on which you can mentally work along with me.

So I am looking forward to your contribution in saving this old bugger and I thank you in advance for your support.

    Presenting Vin 5992
Looking at the VIN Database created I see 5992 has other details than the ones I got.

Firstly, it has been in Michigan for many years and it only had one owner. See also its old fashioned Michigan license plate.

Front to back, the body shows minor dents and issues. As most nothern States vehicles, the trouble lies below.....

And the interior is just a charm! No cracks or tears, just the steering column cover is missing & the glove box button...

Finally we have an engine @ 17500 original miles, that hasn't started in years and I am leaving this as my first surprise fix. Gasoline should be all gluey and I am hoping no rats have been chewing on the cables....

Note this will probably be the ONLY DELOREAN in Greece.
There was one impounded but the police several years back from a drug dealer, that I think was scrapped over 10 years ago. I have been looking for that VIN for years and it can not be found in any documents of the Greek authorities

    Congrats on your purchase man!

That car needs a lot of work, but can be saved.

    Thanx guys!
Yes you are right on the money there Chris

Actually this is what I like about it. It needs the frame removed, sandblasted, repaired and then powder painted. And that is only the start of it.
It was the same procedures I did with all my previous project cars.

I truly find it boring buying a car, adding gas and driving off....
Saving them is what intrigues me. Especially being mentally escorted by a friendly bunch like you guys in here.

On Monday I will add "Task discussion number one".

Glad I could help Tony is a fantastic guy to deal with. Even though he knew nothing in his showroom was for me, he still took the better part of an hour out of his day to show me some cars, things to look for, gave me some magazines, etc. Glad I could help him to bring car and buyer together. Now if I can just get myself one....

Well done Alex. Looking forward to a picture outside the Acropolis

Or as close to it as you can get.

I don't always drive cars, but when I do, I prefer DeLoreans

No-one is to stone anyone, even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say "carburetor"

Wow, I didn't realize you don't own one yet. Tony has another one at a good price having done several repairs on it. But I m sure you know that already since you are on the inside lane at DMC Florida.

That is actually a great idea D-Meister
In fact, let us open a DeLorean around the world thread that has images of a DMC in front of global landmarks!

You want to take this up?

Alex, I think that is a great idea!! If we started a thread where the purpose was to post pictures of your Delorean prominently displayed in front of a "iconic" landmark, that would be really awesome. Think too if we could somehow standardize the shot... They could then all be montaged into a video; the kind where the subject remains fixed on the screen while the rest of the images change. Some of the more creative people on this forum probably know how to do this already.

Obviously our cars do differ in appearance, but far less so than any other car. If the shot were say, open doors, taken from ~3' off the ground, driver side, from the driver's 7 o'clock position or so, about 20' away..... or something comparable. Food for thought.

    Eiffel tower from Trocadero
    Colosseum in Rome
    Stonehenge
    Brandenburg gate
    etc...

    cool.
