I've seen those before and almost considered it. But now that I have low current fans, I don't see the point. However, if you have stock fans it would be intriguing to see how it works. Replacing both the fan relay and fan-fail module along with the outerstat switch is pretty cool. Just verify the temp sensor wire is long enough to run from the coolant outlet pipe to where you want to keep the module (since the manual says not to cut/modify that wire).

I was thinking since that system is designed to operate modern low-amp fans it would be a good solution... but eh, I don't really feel like spending the money right now. My cooling fans failed thanks to a bad diode, but now that they're working again I probably won't do anything to them.

Fortunately diode failure seems to be pretty uncommon. Worst case you've simply fixed that component for at least another 30 years.
