Gear Lever broke off at its base

My Gear Lever broke off at its base exactly at the location of the Roll Pin. The Roll Pin is used to prevent accidently shifting into reverse.
I have read of this happening to others on the DeLorean forums in the past.

I have looked at a good used one I can possibly buy. But, first I wanted to know if anyone has been able to fix their broken Gear Lever.

Who here has had that happen to them and were you able to fix it?

Contact Rob Grady, (PJ GRADY's) He had replacement sticks made just for that very reason. He used to advertise various Improved items in Delorean World back in the day. The replacement stick was one of them those items. I asked him about the replacement stick back in the late 90's. He told me, it was not that uncommon for them to break, so he went ahead and had a quantity manufactured.

You would probably need to cut the shaft a little shorter, weld on a new piece and drill a hole to match in the new piece. Not something most owners would or could do. I would machine a new piece from 4130 steel with a ring to weld the the old cut shifter shaft back in.

Maybe this is common knowledge, but it seems it's the same as a Lotus Esprit gearstick, see here:

This is usually the result of a PO who did not know how to get past the reverse lock-out and forced it. Usually breaks the roll pin but eventually will break the rod at it's weakest point, the hole where the roll pin is.

Thanks for the heads up Martin.

Good to know a previously unavailable part has been sourced. http://www.sjsportscars.co.uk/index.php?mod=10 P/N: A082F4088H £ 83.54 this probably includes VAT so you can probably have that excluded from the final sales price.

Is it me or does the roll pin hole look like it's in the wrong place?
Yeah, it's dirty. I drive it.

The shift lever on my eLectric DeLorean broke on my way to have its first inspection. Lots of fun

Bought my replacement from Rob Grady.
