Is rack and pinion steering so bad as to warrant the consideration of changing a primary function of the car? I've never used the Electric steering that I know of, but I may have without knowing it. I know my car has power, my father's van has power; does the Fiat 500 have electric? If so, then I have used it before.

Rack and pinion is fine. Especially on a DeLorean where the engine is rear mounted. My '78 280Z only had rack and pinion and it was just fine with an inline 6 sitting on it.

I had a Civic without power steering. It was far worse than the DeLorean. If you're having that big a problem with heavy steering, I would check the u-joints on the steering linkage. When I got mine, 1 of them was practically seized. The difference after I replaced it was night and day!

My '93 Honda del Sol doesn't have PS either. The D's wheel is Lots easier to turn at a stand still.

(Although the del Sol's accelerator and clutch pedal are a Lot easier to push then the D)....

My Elise doesn't have power steering, but it is so light it feels like it does.

That was exactly how I felt about the D after replacing the steering linkage!

Why be specific about an "automatic" DeLorean? Would it make a difference?

No-one is to stone anyone, even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say "carburetor"

Call DMCMW. If you're in FL, why not use the Bonita Springs location?
