Check out this picture of the 1980 RSX Mustang Concept. Those windows look familiar to me. Thank goodness this car never made it into production.

I'm a huge Mustang fan but the early 80s Mustangs were some of the ugliest ever made. They didn't get decent again until 85 then 87-93. I've seen windows that were similar to the Delorean but not exact. Those look exactly like a Delorean window. Wonder what window motor they used.

While I did not care for the grill on the 83-84 Mustangs, I did like the look of the early 80's Mustang GT's, and the specialty versions were even better.
I was really close to purchasing the car below a couple years ago, which may have taken a few of the styling cues from the 1980 RSX Mustang Concept.

Totally impractical, totally outrageous, but also totally cool, in my opinion.

Odd that you'd put in a window like that on a normal swing out door.

I'm curious to how this could have happened. Was this a common window design floating around the car design world in the late 70's?

Interesting question.
Not so sure about it being popular in that time frame.
Here are a few cars with "DeLorean" windows made before and after the D. from oldest to newest. Am limiting the answer to production cars - and the F1 kind of pushes that boundary.
Lambo Countach LP400, ~'74-'78 and perhaps later. OK, these were rectangular but still a sort of toll-booth affair.

Subaru SVX (Giugiaro designed it!) from '91 to '96

McLaren F1 -'92-'96

Look carefully at them to guess why the drop glass was designed that way. My guess is that none of the designers started with small drop glass sections. It was a necessary result of some limit due to door size/design and glass size/height/position/angle?
Anybody know of others that make this list? Include model the year range.
