    Clutch shaft allignment

Before taking my gearbox out of the car, I am studying how it all works (I am going to convert my Delorean to Electric ...).

Do I get it right that the Clutch shaft is somewhat loose over the splines of the primary shaft, and that the centering is taking care of at the end of the clutch shaft (yellow arrow) where it fits in the pilot bearing in the engine? Because of this 'looseness' it operates kind of like a 'cardan coupling' and relieves the bearings in the gearbox from any sideways stress due to (small) misalignement of the motor with the gearbox?
