Today I got my steering wheel kit from Dave and Julee from DMCMW. The kit includes the new deeper steering wheel adapter, a MOMO style wheel (not official MOMO), and a DMC logo for the center. I really love the way this new wheel looks in the Delorean, it makes it feel more modern, but still feels like it fits. Here are some pictures:

Yeah the wheels have been around for a while, but the main difference is the new adapter kit from DMCMW that spaces the wheel out closer to its original position.

I would like a leather one, with good quality. Is that too much to ask? :nana2:

I'm sure I could get the adapter leather covered. For the steering wheel you're on your own.

i think that might be a bit much, leather adapter.

In all seriousness, are there any well done steering wheels available?

The original Momo wheel is nice quality. As far as other more subdued designs, I don't really know.

The install didn't take long, although I did get the right bolts for the steering wheel puller beforehand. The only tricky part is getting the screws back into the center piece after you get the steering wheel on. Those screws were hard to locate the holes for as you can't see them well.

The MOMO knock off I got isn't bad, although I'm sure the originals are better. The one I have was hand picked by Dave as being one of the nicer ones they had.

There seem to be variations in the knockoff. That one has been around for a year or so, and the others that we have are new and a slightly different design. I've been sending pictures as people inquire so they know what they are getting.

I found some originals thanks to Dave. $35 vs $300 is a pretty large difference

Another comparison - having the OEM wheel recovered is now close to $500.

I've looked into having it done locally and it was more than double this amount.

Wholly smokes $500 to recover a wheel, my wheel man does them for about £130 ($200). Here's a couple he did with silver stitching just to add a little something different.

Although I know it's pretty hard to find upholsterers who can be bothered to do wheels.

I wonder what it would cost to send a wheel from here to the UK and back. It is surprising because I generally don't think of the UK as a low-labor-cost area! To your second comment, I think my local guy was giving me the "those are a real pain to do, please go away!" price.

I really can't fathom how the Momo knockoffs get here and retail for $30. Somewhere in China someone is making steering wheels for about 4 cents an hour.

$500 is steep for a recover, better be snakeskin!

Dave, will you sell just the logos for the wheel even if we already have the DMCH adapter/Momo wheel?

Yes. $25. Machined from aluminum.

The emblem is essentially the icing on the cake - if doing the Momo wheel, you gotta get the emblem :thumbup2:

Wow - I looked into getting precisely the same thing machined locally and it was going to cost $130!!!

Hah! Before the DMCMW emblem, DMCH wouldn't sell an emblem. I've got a knockoff momo wheel, and I didn't want to use the "EKTOR" emblem. I painstakingly filled in the dent, and recovered the center of the wheel:

2859628597

You can still see the dent, but only at certain angles. Maybe now I will re-dent and recover the wheel, especially after a friend gifted me a custom DMC emblem :)

I think the momo wheels are best complemented with the dmoco.com stainless shifter plates:

Dave, at DCS you and Julee also had a stock steering wheel center pad on display with the raised DMC logo that you are coming out. Any pics or updates on this?

Still in development. No updates yet. That was a 3d printer prototype.

The previous owner of my car had a Momo wheel installed using Houston's adapter. However, it did not have that nice center pad, just a horn button which I thought was cheesy, so I put the original wheel back on. I still have the Momo wheel, and I wonder if I the center pad is available separately.

Jan what's with your speedometer showing its measurements inverted - kph as the dominant measurement and mph as the inner?

Canadian and European market models had the kph speedometers.

Yes but not THAT speedometer. That one in particular look like a typical 140MPH repro with added custom text for the blue scale (now MPH) and reversing the MPH/KPH labeling.

No, his MPH scale only goes to 85. The 140 KMPH is the same as the stock US spec one. Maybe he had to recover it as his original one got damaged? It looks right though.

No, there were no 140km/h speedometers. Yes, the stock speedo went to 85mph. Yes, there was a desire and a few units built to go to 140mph. Yes, 85mph and 140km/h scales almost exactly. Yes, a reproduction 140mph speedometer is now sold.

This appears to be a one-off custom job putting the 140mph tickmark scale into km/h.

I've seen more than one car with a 140 km/h speedo, back when I was looking to purchase my car. I heard that they were sold in Canada, but never got much more than that.

No you haven't. There were no 140km/h speedometers. I'm starting to sound like a broken record on a steering wheel thread. The Canadian cars had a 240km/h speedometer.

Dude, I wouldn't mess with Jim Reeve, but as Apollo Creed once said, 'some folks got to learn the hard way,' which I unfortunately did at DCS - and still have the marks and sore ribs to prove it. Thanks Jim

Seriously though, Jim is right

Mine was an original 85Mi speedometer.
But with those miles indicated and the ever growing speed camera's (traject controll even) I wanted to have a better speed indication.
I know GPS is very reliable but who puts that on for local failiar roads?

So I made a sticker and added the miles and Km/h the other way. testing with the GPS, it is very precise.
But I was happy to see it was almost not noteceable it is a sticker. It has been there for almost 5 years aI think.
It takes some work to put the sticker on it, but at the same time I replaced the bulps with LED, so it was worth the work
I have been doubting for a moment to paint the arrows bright red, but I decided not to.

You learn something new everyday. Looks pretty good for a sticker.
