A-Pillar trim

My car is the older style where they wrapped the plastic instead of putting the vinyl under the windshield. I read that DMC California had a fiberglass version at one time but it appears DMC California is now part of DMC Houston, as a result I can't find any way to get the fiberglass version. Does anyone have any knowledge about this or know how I could get the fiberglass version to avoid this occurring in the future?

I was thinking about something related to this the other day. I have to replace my windshield due to a crack in the center. As well my a pillars have pulled away from being tucked under the windshield. When I had my Lotus Esprit,the rear quarter windows had a black painted seal made of urethane that is applied as a liquid in a shoe polish type applicator, the kind with a square sponge at the top of the bottle that saturates when you push down. It makes a dull thin finish on the back side of the glass which you mask off with masking tape to create your neat line of application, and of course the other side will be glossy through the glass.. This is both neat looking and creates a water barrier for the glass. It's used on many application for auto glass. Anywho, I was thinking of just talking the excess material from the pillar and wrapping around and gluing it to the back side of the trim to make it now a covered trim piece, and using this and masking tape to create a nice extra water seal and a thin black line to cover the portion usually seen through the outside of the windshield covering where the material is now wrapped.. Two fold I think this may be a great modification both aesthetically and useful to end the problem of it coming undone again, plus another water barrier never hurts.. It's available at most auto parts stores. I haven't done this in 10'years, so I forgot the actual name. Looks like a shoe polish bottle and urethane in the name. It's also mainly a primer for the actual thick urethane you apply that actually seals the glass to the body. I'll let you know how it works out and post some pics. Oh yeah, the black painted strip at the bottom of the DeLorean windshield is actually done with this exact product during manufacture. Putting a 1/2" strip on the sides to hide the joint between the body and A pillar should match and look very nice.

I could see that working well if yours has only pulled away slightly, mine is warped enough that I can see the back side pretty clearly, i'd guage a few inches.
