Had a guy buy my hot start relay at DCS and his car VIN in the 016?? has a funny black connector (two wires) and no white relay connector (three wires).
Was this a PO wiring mod or did the early VINs not have the hot start connector?

Are you referring to the RPM relay? If so, my VIN is pretty close to the VIN range you're inquiring about. I don't notice anything unusual about my connector, but if you want, I can get a pic of it for you - just let me know
If not, let me know what relay it is, and I'll take a look on my car and get some pics for you

There should be a white relay socket just hanging loose at the far back of the passenger side electrical compartment (behind the seat where all the relays are located). There was never any relay incorporated into that socket (until I did mine). It has three wires, blue/black, white/red and black.

FYI 2075 has the white 3 wire connector. I have always found it a bit funny that this electrical band aid option for the various fuel system issues was thought about & planned into the original circuitry

OK, I'm following you now. My car has a black connector, but it has three wires going to it - blue/black stripe, white/red stripe, and black. Here's a pic of it

Does the end look like this? And is that sized for a standard relay?

Sorry, I should have just uploaded the other pics that I took of the thing. Anyway, yes, looks exactly like that. Appears to be sized for a standard relay to me anyway. Here's a pic -

Early VIN thing. Most cars have a white connector there. Obviously makes no difference.
What can you do with it? Be careful!
1 - Connect the white-red to 12V+ and the starter will engage. The engine will probably start but die as soon as you remove the connection. In any gear, whether or not the key is on!
2 - Connect the blue-black to ground (black) and the cold start valve will spray whenever the engine cranks. If left jumped it will probably flood the engine when warm.
CAUTION Don't connect the white-red to either of the other two or you will melt wiring and/or burn out the thermotime switch.

Nobody really said this relay can be used in place of the thermotime switch. I've actually taken mine out and plugged the hole in the water pump. Dave's relay will engage the cold start valve after 1 second of engine cranking. On a warm engine it takes far less engine cranking to start the car, so flooding the engine is not likely.
