Highest Miles DeLorean, running, that you know of...

Recently came across this here on DMCTalk:


Let me preface this by saying I previously owned a D with a bad engine. It would knock and bang and most noteably wouldn't build oil pressure and the water temp would constantly heat up even with the fans on.In addition it had 3XX,XXX miles on it. ....

This made me curious.

What are the highest odometer readings that you've seen or head of on a DeLorean, still running, with its stock PRV engine and tranny? ...and otherwise, as in rebuilt, or replaced, just note it if you are aware of any.

Around 1997 I saw Joe "DMC Joe" LoRe's with over 250k.

I remember seeing this car and Joe mentioning the 250k mileage also. This was around 1999 when he worked on 02378. It wasn't long after that when he and his son stopped working on Deloreans. Not sure where the car is now or "DMC Joe" for that matter.

I had been to his place a few times for tech sessions and to trade parts but have no idea where the car ended up. For all I know he may still have it. He still lives down near where he did in '97.

That was my first D 774 was hunk of junk. Rob Grady's best estimate was it either had 320,000 or 420,000 I always chose to believe it was the low estimate only because I had a hard time believing it could have that much mileage on it. Keep in mind this was in 1998 and it was driven daily from long island to new jersy everyday for 18 years. Before I got it, I was told it was used as a daily driver for its entire life from day one. In robs estimate back then it would be financialy upside down to resurrect the car. I can't imagine the car is still in one piece today. It must have been parted or junked by now.

Not running much anymore, but mine had about 200k on it when my dad stopped driving it 15 years ago haha

Keep in mind, the most the odometer will ever read is 99,999 :)

I'm working on rolling mine over the long way……

Hopefully within a few years, I'll have a car with only 100 miles on it! :)

Sparky's odometer reads just over 78,000, but given how badly the valves leak I imagine it is closer to 178,000. :'(

That is one thing that always irked me. You have these DeLoreans with low miles, advertised as low miles, but they could have rolled over once already...

I guess that is why one needs to get someone in the know to look at a DeLorean you want to purchase. They will see if it is true mileage or not. I guess if a car can hide the fact it ran over 100k it has been well taken care of, and will most likely outlast a low mileage one that has been sitting for years.

It is great to see that there are cars with more than 100k out there, even 200k. Proof that the DeLorean is just another car, that with maintenance, will run forever.
