So I've decided to have my fascia's repainted. My front has paint fade and the rear is just beat up. I have a family friend that owns a body shop. They do great work. Hrs done 2 accident repairs on my altima and their color matching is perfect. He can repaint them exactly how they are now with the clear coat gloss finish. But I want them to look original.
Can someone tell me what the correct factory finish would be on an August 81 build car? Should it be a clear glossy finish or a matte finish? Also what is the correct color.
Thanks.

According to the Concours Manual:
"glossy finish up to VIN 03599, matte finish from VIN 03600"
As to color, see this thread:

Interesting. I knew my fascias had been repainted by a PO, but I guess I didn't realize that my car, 05457, should have been matte finish. However I do like the glossy look so it would be a tough call to go back to matte if I ever needed to repaint.

I have my fascia's off my car, trying to find a place to get them painted. Hard to find, I don't trust anyone. Are your guys good?? No paint chipping or anything?

Billy, my family and I have been doing business with these people for almost 20 years. They have recently done 2 accident repairs on my altima. Earlier this year someone hit my quarter panel and 2 years ago it was rear ended. Both repairs match the existing factory finish perfectly. 5 years ago they did a sideswipe repair on my pickup (which my dad still owns) and the paint still matches perfect even in sunlight. My wife had a Trans-am back in the 90's and I think these guys replaced every body panel on that car (not all at once) and when she sold it in 99 it still looked great. So I'm very confident in their workmanship. Normally I use them for accident repair in which they handle the entire claims process. This is the first time I've used them for a "recreational" project. So I've not put any pressure on them for a timetable. As of right now they're pretty busy. I'm supposed to drop my car off either late next week or sometime in the third week of July. The understanding is they''ll do the whole job. From removal and stripping to paint and reinstallation. But he's going to do it in his spare time which might get it back to me sometime in mid August. If you want to wait and see my results it might be done for the road rally. I'll be sure to post before and after pics as I go through the process. If you like my results I can give you their info and the shop is located in Freeport LI.
