Does anyone else have nothing in the 18 slot in your fuse box? I don't have wires there or in the relay area to even go there. There were 2 fuse terminals in that hole, but they've never had wires in them- they are not crimped. Seems strange. My brake lights work fine. I only noticed because I replaced my fuse block tonight. I put a spare fuse there for now in case I need one.

This was a running change done to later cars. Early cars have an inline fuse near the break pedal to protect the tail light circuit. In later cars (all 83s for sure) have the #18 fuse used to protect the tail light circuit. Also the tail lights work regardless if the ignition is "on."

Makes sense. Mine is an early car. Just was surprised that there were no wires in it all.
