Does anyone know who's motor this is? This is an amazing upgrade. Simple but cool. The air box completely covers up all the engine. It looks so unimpressive when you lift the bonnet on the stock setup. Why clean up your motor if you can't even get the pride of seeing it. I think this is a great mod. Imagine if you have nice polish on your air mixture unit, it would look amazing.

And these chrome ended fuel line with chrome banjo bolts/ hollow nuts. How come this stuff is hard to find?
I don't think john hereby or DMC make these this way. Anyone know who's making these? They look great!

I have a folder of cool upgrades pics (mostly cosmetic) that came from image searches etc. But no information attached.

Any one have any info on this stuff?

You can get the fuel lines in a few different colours. Josh at dpi has the braided stainless lines.

As for that air filter - double check it wouldn't restrict your air flow.

We have zinc plated banjo ends but not chromed/polished. Also we are the only ones to pressure test lines through a DOT approved source and our sheathing is properly installed beneath the crimp per Eaton Specs. (not as in picture)

That air filter will only suck hot air due to location. The stock box in this case with a inlet tube other than stock is superior.

If your looking for an intake filter housing that looks different from stock but performs simmilarly you might check out this one from John at Special T ...

Right hand column, second item from top...

I believe Faisal Jaswal's DeLorean has a similar one (might be the exact one) that is outfitted with blue LED inside. Very dramatic if that's your taste.

Bubble burst. (I still want to know tho) What can you tell me about the difference in performance here? Is this going to overheat the vehicle or will performance suffer because air is warm.
If this isn't an ideal option what is(besides stock box and air inlet)?

Is there any options to have a nice looking version of whats in this image below. Pluming that allows air inlet at a proper place but doesn't look like so haggard. The twin turbo look is a little better but that welded look is still ugly and "home made" looking. 2887028871

At the end of the day there has to be an air filter somewhere, ideally drawing cooler air. Other than stock and john's plexiglass extravaganza, you're kinda limited with the mixture unit and space constraints. Going to carbs or EFI means different intake manifolds and new options, but thats a long way to go for "options."

Why not embrace the stock air box? With some scrubbing, a few coats of black, and a new decal or two, it can look very sharp.

You can get the stock airbox chromed. There are places that will crome plastics, and I've seen it done (sorry no photos).

I can vouch for this. When Cliff Schmucker was doing the polished stainless rolling chassis project, my friend RJ and I had a distributor cap chromed. Next time you're looking through photos of the frame, try to find the distributor; it won't be easy without the cap being orange. (We did always wonder though if it would still work; our guess was that if you actually tried to run it, you would get a lot of arcing)

By the way, the circular air filter in the first post belongs to member: HillbillyDMC

I can chrome a set of line ends for you if that is what you want. It would be our standard line kit of 374.00 plus whatever the price is for the chrome finish.

It is still a stock PRV so do what you want with the air cleaner. Nothing good comes from pulling air from a hot environment.

Thats pretty cool man. Never thought of that. The orange distributor is also a good call. Any info on price or places that do this? I used to be a toy designer and we used a process call vacuum metalizing for plastic. That is how your standard model kit bumpers are made. But you're talking Chrome as in metal?

Not a bad solution but to me the design looks foreign in there. Like it doesn't belong. Needs to be more integrated and smaller.

Josh is it a 13 piece set? Also what could you do on the chrome cost? LMK
thanks man!

I've seen the DeLorean with that air filter in person. If it's hurting performance I certainly can't tell. I've never seen another DeLorean perform that well. It drove the 2-4 hours to meet up with no issues. It's been a couple of years so I don't remember what it's from or the model number.

Advanced Plating in Tennessee can chrome plate plastic. It's an actual chrome coating. http://www.advancedplating.com/site/

Smokey Yunick says otherwise....

I've been running my car with the stock/OEM air filter without any air piping connected to it, thus it's just drawing in ambient air from around the engine bay, and I haven't experienced any ill effects that I'm aware of (no pre-detonation, no increased running temperatures, etc), except a slightly noticeable decrease in usable power and a slight increase in fuel economy.

I don't think Casey would be running the conical air filter directly atop the air metering housing if it was actually detrimental to his engine, as he seems like someone that knows what they're doing. That said, it definitely isn't helping with the power/performance of his engine at all.

Air filter boxes are often designed to create certain air flow patters/vortexes/characteristics which can increase engine performance/power. The biggest example I personally know of are the air boxes used by GM on Northstar engines. When performance modders eliminated the air box in favor of a simpler (lighter weight) air tube and exposed filter setup, they actually experienced a decrease in engine performance/power. Thus, from a performance/power perspective, it's often times hard to beat factory air boxes.

If you're not looking to squeeze ever little bit of power/performance out of the engine, then I honestly don't see what it hurts, as it basically boils down to a cosmetic decision under such circumstances.

Just remember that you'll also need an additional air filter for the CIS (idle air) motor.

Hey you're right. I just noticed that in the photo.

this has a 4 inch inlet but i'm pretty sure the mixture unit needs a 4 1/4 inlet.
