Hey guys,

Who sells the rear stainless steel-look bumper letters? My bumper looks a little lonely :sad30:

I saw some on eBay, but I am curious if someone has a recommendation of a reputable place.

Slightly off-topi... Can they be removed and re-installed without destroying them?
I want to get my fascias repainted and include the bumpers... I could mask them off but I'd prefer to remove and re-install.

If you are REALLY careful and don't bend them. Masking them is probably the best thing to do. Maybe using a heat gun to soften the glue? If they are really there tight I would leave them alone and mask them off.

The ones I bought from Europe didn't have adhesive tape to attach them so I had to use double sided 3M tape which worked very well. Been on for a few years now and still secure. I'm sure they would bend if an attempt was made at removing them. So use SEM trim black to pain the bumper before installing them.

Does anyone still sell the stainless "DMC" letters that fit on top of the doorsill letters? They're just about the perfect size to fit the fuel rail covers that I want to make. Unfortunately I haven't seen them for sale in quite a while.

I've seen those but they're just printed milar, not stainless steel like I want.

I bought my SS letters at the DCS-2008 show. It was one of the DMC vendors. I removed any paint under the letters with MEK and Q-tips to be sure they would stick. So far they show no sign of coming off. If I ever paint the bumper, I would mask them off. I don't think you could pull them off without bending them.

I bought some made out of Mylar, on Ebay. Here's what they look like installed on the bumper:

It must have been in '84 when I bought the SS letters for the bumper.
I bought them from Ed B at D one who gave his personal guarantee that they
would never come off. Here it is thirty years later and they still look new.

Those do look good!

For what I'm doing, I do want the 3D aspect of the stainless steel.

Hi folks,

Just for comparison, do all the vendors' rear letter sets come with the mounting tape? Also, is the tape precut in the shape of the letters or do you do that yourself? Vendors, some pictures of the letters before installation would be great.

Ours have the 3m sticky tape already applied to the back of the letters ready for install.

If you want to get radical, try lighted letters. I had my rear bumper off for repairs when I had an idea.
Took a saber saw and carefully cut each letter out. Then I siliconed some red plastic from some old exit lights
to the inside of the bumper. A neon tube from JC Whitney carved into the foam made a one of a kind neat
addition to night time driving. The purist may balk, but my bumper was in rough shape anyway.

Tiger seal, or similar silicone sealer is perfect for the job. A couple of blobs on each letter & they are not coming off any time soon, unless you want them to, then its really simple to remove them, if you ever want to paint the bumper.
