View Full Version : Frame & Body Looking for frame paint that is resistant to gasoline and brake/clutch fluids

I accidentally overfilled my gas tank some time back (I have since installed the new, better DMCH fuel pump/sender) and the gasoline ended up dissolving the paint on the frame and gas tank close-out plate. No big deal, easy to fix, but what kind of paint should I use? It should obviously be resistant to gasoline and brake/clutch fluid.
I am sure eastwood.com offers it but, then again, none of their products say specifically that they are resistant to these fluids. (At least not that I have seen.)

If you didn't mind a little bit of texture, I'd be tempted to try some Rhino liner or Line-X, like they use to line pick-up truck beds.

Any of the POR-15 enamels? Will they resist gas/oil?
Are you sure it was the gasoline that attacked your paint in there? The clutch and brake masters are in the same area as the filler.
Plenty of us have spilled gas on regular painted cars without damaging it (but we don't let it sit there, of course).
On the other hand I think hydraulic fluid attacks almost all paints. Nasty stuff that way....

Model Aircraft paint is available in spray cans and while it isnt chemically hardened it does repel petroleum and alcohol based solvents like gas and brake fluid.

Por 15 is fuel resistant. It's a urethane not enamel.

Yeah, there was no brake/clutch fluid spillage prior to that. I am very sure of that. I noticed the paint flaking off a couple of days after the fuel spillage, but that spot may have been touched up with sub-standard paint at an earlier point in time.

Thanks - I will order gray POR 15.
Thanks all who chimed in!

I will keep this in mind for future projects, thanks for the tip!

POR15 could withstand a thermonuclear detonation by the looks of it. I spilled some on a bench once, damn stuff was near impossible to remove!

Brake fluid will take it off. Takes a while but it will cut it.
