View Full Version : General Door Lights and funky wiring

Back again guys. Finally got out to work on the project this weekend and was able to fix some issues but found more.

I was able to tweak the door switches for the lights and "door ajar" light for the passenger side door, but the driver's side door lights are still not working. Trunk light, dome lights, engine light, glove box light and (as I stated) passenger side door lights are all functional.

I think the wires at the switches have been tweaked a bit and I'm definitely no wiring expert so I'm at a loss. After inspecting several wiring diagrams, I have concluded that I have no idea what I'm doing. Does anyone have a picture of this area? Or can anyone point me in the correct direction? OR tell me how I can test this wiring? FYI my "multimeter" is from the 1950's...

Thanks in advance...again

Here's where you can find the wiring diagram for the door/interior lighting. I guess you saw it already? It's at the bottom of the first post (noted as Corrected):

Both switches should have 2 wires each. You have half of the wires on correctly so far. A purple/blue goes to one side of each switch but they are not the same purple/blue circuits. One goes to ignition buzzer and the other goes to the interior lighting diodes.

Figure out which blue-purple goes to the ignition buzzer nearby (up to left of steering column under the dash). That wire is already on one of your door switches but you need to know where it goes to. Attach the loose purple-white wire to other terminal on that switch. If you like having an ignition buzzer, that is.

The OTHER blue-purple wire already on the OTHER door switch is by elimination going to your door lamp diode. Attach the loose black (GND) wire to the other terminal on THAT switch to get your interior lamps and left door lamps going.

That photo you included helps a lot.

You are the MAN! This is exactly what I needed - got my lights working perfectly.

Thanks very much.
