this amp rack almost killed me. I haven't built one of these since I had my saab 99ems in high school in 1985! amazingly, I still has some boxes of grommets left over from that install.

the amp is a nos us amps with some tubes that glow nicely and the stainless grill was laser cut. you can't see it, but the tubes glow through the dmc logo. head unit is a jvc kameleon and the speakers ( not done yet) are focals. tweeters in the dash and mid bass down in the kick panels.

sub will be in the cubby.

more pictures when it is done, but the hard part is over.

As I see some crossovers on the rack, I'm wondering if you'll be running components of some sort, or just multi-driver coaxials?

If you haven't picked a sub yet, I highly recommend the Sundown Audio 8" SD-2, as it's probably the best shallow depth sub I've ever personally experienced.

Sadly, I won't be at the DMA event this weekend. It it our annual summer bash in our "bourbon street basement" and pool party, so about 150 friends come in from all over for it...so I can't get away.

I've been looking at their avx44 to replace my larger flip out touchscreen unit. Did you have any trouble fitting the unit in the dash with all the extras coming out the back?

it fit in very easily. slid right in. the tab on the back even lined right up with the exiting mounting bracket.

I'll post more pictures after the speakers are in. I was going to try DMC CA's speaker pods, but they don't seem to be answering emails, so I think I'll make my own.

Holly crap! That is the most wicked sick basement I've ever seen. The stereo is going to be trick too. I'm toying with putting some speakers into the door since I moved the AC vents to the knee pads. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of all you will have going on in there.

Have you ever considered shakers (tactile transducers)? I have one on the back of my driver's seat in my supra, it's nice. :)

Looks great. I like be the time circuits for the faceplate image. I'm intrigued by the speaker boxes from DMC-CA... it sounds like what's pictured are someone else's? Are the Focal tweeters in the stock locations pointing straight up? I'm very interested in however much information you'll be willing to share. I will want to do stereo (maybe be not quite as serious as yours) but along a similar line once I have a car to put it in.

rich, Yes. I do have a nice rack. and you can say that since you've seen penny's picture on facebook!!


The speaker pods from dmc didn't work. they sent me ones for 4" drivers by accident, and they didn't have any larger ones made. So I had a local shop do them for me. They were a couple of hundred bucks. fiberglass with a black leather type fabric. the fit is perfect. the finish is ok. the shop had a new guy working, and I don't think he ever did anything like this before. everyone thinks they look great, but I can see a few little imperfections. if I were you, i'd have a local shop that knows fiberglass do it.

the tweeters are in the stock location pointing straight up, and I can say that this system has the best imaging of any stereo I've ever had. I am kind of a car stereo geek. I've owned dozens of crazy systems over the past 25 years, and this is my absolute favorite. It might be because of the small interior cabin...but these Focal's really sound great. I also love the pHd speakers I have in my FJ. The phd has the best tweeter i've ever heard, bar none. but the tweeters were $450 each. I got the whole focal set for about $400 including passive crossovers.

the hybrid tube amp in the middle was designed to have the tube glow right through the dmc logo, but the tubes barely glow, so you don't really see it. I love the amp though. I mounted it upside down so you can see the circuits, which kinda look like a flux capacitor! the sub is a 500w mono digital alpine. nothing crazy. crossover at 100hz in the head unit.

also has wings aloft which I installed a a super geeky voice module that can make some funny announcements like "1.21 gigawatts" and "are you telling me you built a time machine out of a delorean?"

i've got about 75-100 hours into the entire project, but that also includes wings aloft, headlamp switch replacement, door lock module, and a lot of other little stuff. all working well. (surprisingly, since I am certainly not a pro!) stop by anytime you are nearby.

So aren't the tweets smaller than the stock size holes in the front? How did you mount those? Did you just find an Autobody shop to do those speaker pods, or was it a car audio shop? Lastly, you needed to get the aftermarket faceplate thingy for that HU, right? I hate to say it, but I'm going to be following in your footsteps in some of this setup, so I'll probably have a few more questions as time passes.

no problem. glad to help. the pods were made by a car audio shop. pretty basic actually. most car audio shops have experience with fiberglass.

the head unit was super easy. the only challenge was the factory metal faceplate assembly is made for a shaft radio. so I was going to buy the dmc din model, but they were out of stock, so I simply cut mine with a Dremel. it took about 20 min. I put it back on and the radio slipped right in.

for the tweeters, I used some metal strapping. it attached to the bottom of the tweeter and the side of the straps attached to the factory mounting studs. tweeters were also super easy to install.

Cool thanks! I doubt it's a total gimmick, but either way it's pretty! I have a guitar effects pedal that actually has a tube for it's distortion effects (Digitech RP20 Valve), which is what prompted me to ask about your amp. The tube in it actually does a good job making a good warm distorted sound.

I would image it affects the overall tone as frequencies pass through the amp to the power channel, I have no idea how much, but yeah.
