Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster. Originally from Detroit, so I know the Delorean story well... And was a fan before BTTF. Been looking at Ds for a while, here and elsewhere, and came across one that has been serviced for YEARS at Delorean One. I did some reading on here of the shop's owner, reputation, history, etc... Which is all very fascinating reading... but my big question is about the work that was performed there. Did quality come out of the shop? Are there any specific things I should look for on the car? My main concern is drivability... I'm looking for a car that can be driven daily.

Read the faqs and even made my own buyers checklist from several different posts so that's been super helpful. Love the site, so much knowledge here and great to see such a great community for this car. I have a bad feeling I will be spending too much time here considering how much I've already been here and I don't even have a D yet.

Can't say that I have ever heard that D1 did shoddy work - customer selective, expensive, sure, but not poor workmanship.

But as he has been out of business for a while, where has this car been maintained recently?

That was my first question to myself when I read here that the shop was no longer in business but their website is still active. Then I saw a couple posts that said maybe the shop is still open or that former employees are running something, I don't know. Usually I'd call the shop and ask them about their service on a car, but in this case I'm not too sure I want to do that just yet. I'm gonna see the car and the seller says he has all the paperwork, so we'll how recent it is. I'm very curious to say the least...

Regardless of what shop serviced a car, nothing beats a personal thorough/inclusive inspection and test drive by someone that knows what they're looking at :fancy:

Yeah, if I like what I see... Next step is getting a pro to look at it. Need to research some places/people in SoCal!

Waiting for the vin from the seller... will definitely throw it out here when I get it.

Michael was making a DeLorean 1 joke - Ed would always ask for the VIN of your car before he'd assist you at all, as he kept a black list and tracked it via the VIN of the car, not by the owner of the car.

DMC California. I've never been there but I've heard nothing but positive reviews about Danny Botkin. Best of luck with your DeLorean dream :woot:

Delorean 1 was winding down for a while. Back in the day they had a sterling reputation and were one of the only venders for a long time. The service side of the business was sold and there hasn't been a lot of feedback here on this forum about the level or quality of service. On the other hand there haven't been any complaints either. You also have to be careful about a seller claiming "service". A vender will do only what the customer is willing to pay for so while the seller may make all kinds of claims about how the car was serviced, there could be many things wrong with the car that the owner didn't want to pay to fix. The very best thing you can do is have the car inspected by someone who knows what they are looking at. Especially if the car hasn't been used or serviced for a while.

Does the seller want to recover all his cost he spent at D1? That would be my concern if you have not talked price yet.

We have talked price, and no he's not trying to recover what was spent there; only wants to sell the car.
