I hear a thud like something falling over behind me when driving. specifically on the driver side. like something fell over on the parcel shelf but it sounds like its under the parcel shelf.
Happens after a bump but not always or when a stop a little hard but not always.
I've recently had my shocks replaced with brand new spax. Everything looks right to me.
Sorry this is the best way i can describe this.

Strange that you mentioned this. I use to get a thump when I go around corners, like the battery was sliding in the cubby hole, hitting the insides. Hasn't done it in a while.
Be interested to see what others think.

I just put in a new battery as well. but its not the battery. I thought it might be but its fairly secure. And like i said i here it on the driver side. passenger in car also confirms coming from my side. had my father drive it today and he hears it as well he things it might be the left rear shock absorber.

Have you looked inside the cubby hole behind the driver's seat? And under the parcel shelf in the corner on the driver's side where the ECU is? Maybe one of those components isn't bolted down to the bracket anymore.

Or the bracket is bouncing. It isn't secured very well in the first place. Lift up on it (the whole "tray") and you'll see what I mean.

Mine was not fastened because I had to cut the bolts to remove it. I've since installed one bolt but I only heard noise if I left the cover off that compartment.

Noises are notoriously difficult to find and fix. They sound like they are coming form one place but are really coming from another. Check the tools in the front of the trunk, they can slide and make strange noises. Check the suspension and particularly the TAB's.

Posted this a hundred times before, but I had a rear suspension noise that I spent dozens of hours tracking down. Had the whole ass of the car ripped apart before I discovered that my "rear suspension noise" was a jug of coolant sliding around in the boot. This car magnifies, transfers, relocates and modifies noises like very few others can due to the construction of the tub. Rule out all the obvious and loose stuff before you waste any time dismantling anything.

starting to think its what DMCMW Dave said it was. bracket bouncing. need to get it to stop bouncing to be sure. also i do have a bottle of coolant in the luggage compartment but don't think its sliding around but only one way to find out...
