View Full Version : Suspension New DMCH reproduction lug nuts - anyone have them?

Just curious if anyone has a set of these out there. I've had some bad luck with lug nuts, specifically with the pressed-on caps flying off and getting lost. I don't use any power tools on the lug nuts, just a hand torque wrench - but even so, I keep losing caps. More than half of my original factory ones were gone so I replaced the whole bunch with the solid chrome ones from SpecialT a few years back. Those were terrible and stood WAY out from the wheel, so I returned them and swapped for his shorter ones with the press-on caps. Most of those caps are now missing as well.
So I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the new DMCH ones before I spend another $65 on lug nuts that are gonna fly apart on me....
The ones I got from DPI do this too. Pisses me off.

I mean, I know it's just a function of the pressed on caps. I get it, solid nuts are way better. But there really aren't any good options for us out there, and I honestly don't know why there's not a way to make these so they don't fall apart for no reason.
I remember someone had tried (and was happy with) some Honda lug nuts that had the right thread and pitch but the seat wasn't quite right, so I wasn't sure about doing that. I like the idea of supporting DMCMW by ordering this new repro set but I really want them to hold up...

I have now been told we have the same source apparently. The caps are sensitive. I"m now machining one piece lugs that look factory original. Current pricing is 3.85 per nut...... Unless I purchase 10,000+. If there is an interest I will mass produce.

At $3.85 per nut they are still competitive with the repops with pressed-on caps... are they available in small orders? Say... 16?

Yes and I can touch base on this tomorrow with our manufacture. Great company I have been dealing with thanks to SW. Usually takes about six weeks from date of order.

I could *definitely* be talked into that. Let me know what they say and let's do some business :)
I'd be interested as well.

As with stainless works they have a lot on their plate for us already. I will do my best to push it through and work on the price. If I commit to 1600 pieces I'm sure I can work down the price. No question over the quality as it is the same company that manufactures our one piece input shafts and gears for our turbo cars.

Josh if there were failures with yours we will do a swap out. As well with anyone else that may have had an issue.

Lol, every time I take off my rims they all fall off. I give them a wack with a rubber mallet and push them back on. Process repeats indefinitely haha.

I have the DMCH reproduction lug nuts... installed them about a year and a half ago and have had the wheels on and off 3-4 times, always removing with a lug nut wrench and reinstalling with a torque wrench. So far no issues with caps separating.

Just saw my brothers Ford Fusion has 3 lug nut caps missing. Some cars I've had the caps have not come off so guess it all depends on who makes them.
Even though I'm now on limited budget, Solid Stainless lug nuts the correct size would be purchased with a reasonable price for my D.

I may not need them yet but I would definitely purchase a set of stainless lug nuts. Count me in if it happens.

Lookit that, a ready built test market for SS lug nuts!
I call dibs on the first set, which I assume will be gratis for evaluation and review purposes...? :) (kidding, I'd pay $3.85 a nut happily)

Here are my Honda lugs on the front. Almost 3 years now with no complaints. Being a factory OE part, the plating is much better than most anything you will find aftermarket. Everything looks good new, it's when you get a few years in is when you see the difference.

Jon, I also have the DMCH reproduction lug nuts, have been using them since 2010 I believe. They have worked well for me, I believe all the caps are tight still. You are welcome to take another look at how they are holding up. They no longer look new, but they have held up as well as I would have expected any other lug nut.

I'd commit to a set of SS lugs. Always for a better, durable product. Keep me posted.

I have DMCH lug nuts on my car as replacements in 2007-08 when I got it running. They have the stainless looking sleeves over the outside. I have never had a problem with them falling off or losing some of them. I've taken the wheels off many times and sometimes had slipped the sleeves off first before using a smaller socket yet lately I just leave them as is and use a slightly larger socket right over them.
Maybe you just need to have a little more grime on the underside of them to get them to stay? That is if too clean/slick is not a good thing in this particular case (inside surface that is opposed to outer).

Dammit! Now I have to go look at my nuts to see what kinda shape there in. :hihi2: At that price for solid it is well worth it.

I did wonder about the factory nuts... I sheered the cap off one of mine trying to get them undone. I bought some nuts from repco which are similar enough for me until I get further into the restoration:

Josh - any word on these stainless nuts? I am SO tired of my caps just flying off on the road. I got to a car show this weekend and noticed I was down to about 8 total nuts with caps still on. They just vanish all the time. I will be #1 in line to buy a set of solid OEM-look stainless nuts. Please save us!

I bought 8 DMCH lug nuts this March and so far so good. Driven about 800 miles so far with no problems to report. I don't know how well they hold up to an impact wrench because I don't allow anyone to use one on my lugs.

Mine have never had an impact on them, only ever a properly sized manual torque wrench, with only the workshop-manual specified torque applied to them, no more. And yet I still hear the caps coming loose and pinging down the road on a regular basis. This is actually my second set of them, third if you count the OEM ones. But those lasted 30+ years and 40,000 miles and these reproductions less than a year/4,000 miles each.

My DMCH lugs have probably 5,000-6,000 miles on them and they still all have the caps, although some can easily be pulled off by hand. I assume it is only a matter of time before they start flying off on the road.
