Howdy folks. Does anyone have any experience with MicroGuard oil filters? Just bought some oil to do a change and they threw in the filter for free. I have some Bosche filters, but if the MicroGuard one is decent quality I might as well use it.

Cheers.

I've only used Bosch on this car. No experience with O'Reilly house brand (Microgard) filters on any of my cars.

How about some very detailed teardown data for Bosch and O'Reilly oil filters? It's a 2-stage process using the linked reference pages.

Comparo between the O'Reilly Microgard and Wix (a.k.a NAPA Gold in this case) filter:

Then you can compare Wix to Bosch here:

Now you can literally see what's inside. Bosch-Wix and Wix-Microgard. They picked a representative size filter for these comparisons, not a PRV filter.

You be the judge.

Sneak preview of their notes at the bottom of the Microgard page:

The MicroGuard filter is the lesser priced filter found at O’Reilly Auto Parts; it is more comparable to the Napa ProSelect (tested here) than the NapaGold or Wix.

MicroGuard uses a leaf spring rather than a coil spring; the leaf spring must always seat properly onto the end cap. Additionally, a leaf spring can bend under high pressures. However, the MicroGuard was the ONLY FILTER to have a built-in bypass valve which could let non-filtered oil into the engine.
