How do I disconnect the big connector on the ignition ECU?

Also, how can I test the Ignition ecu?

I'm getting an engine miss, specifically at no or little load.

Could this be the ignition ECU?

Literally everything else is new. (Plugs, Distributor, Rotor, Plug Wires. )

I wanted to at least clean the big connector.

I can reach down into the mounting plate and get the ignition connector unplugged or plugged back in. But my mounting plate only has one hold down screw so it can bend a little. The connector just pulls out (no latching on the connector).

I would guess it's not the ECU causing your miss but if you have a spare ECU, it's a good way to convince you of that.

I would not even mess with the ECU. It has a very low failure rate. Make sure your system voltage is good. That means a good battery and alternator. Check the gaps in the distributor. If they are not all equal you can get a "miss" or a surging idle. You may also have a failing impulse coil (a LOT more common than a bad ECU!).

Interesting David.. I thought the impulse coil is fails completely or not. It could be failing and make the miss?

I only get the miss under little or no load. Under load no miss at all. (I think)

I don't expect the coil to be bad either. I agree they seem to work or not, no in between. What I have noticed is that if the coil is ever replaced the gaps are not checked and if they are not all equal you can get that "miss" at idle. Once you open the distributor it will be obvious if anyone was there before you.
