Just picked up my D today (woo hoo! yes, will post story and pics soon) and basically going to redo/refresh the entire interior. Except for my Grand National which had no option, all my cars have had black interior, and I'm thinking about replacing the dark gray carpet with all black. This car will not be a "keep it original" looking example -- already ordered the Momo wheel and new stereo. However, I can't find any images through search or google of black interior cars with black carpets. I saw one with gray interior, but that's it. Anybody have any pics that I can look at and see if I like?

I'm also considering black headliner too...

Thanks,

Riley

Congrats on getting the car of your dreams!

You won't find any photos of black interior D's with black carpets, at least not factory carpets. They didn't make any D's with black carpets. "Black interior" factory specs called for gray carpets.

Any all-black carpeted D's would be custom as far as I know.

Iirc, the initial cars were black seats/dash etc with charcoal carpet and many potential buyers found it to be claustrophobic so the grey/light grey option was introduced.

So as Rich says, none were factory but I am sure there is one or two like that now.

Yeah, I saw that DMC CA sells the carpet set in black so that's why I wondered if anybody had it.

I started out with an all black interior but when it came time for a refresh, I had everything redone in a mix of grey/black.

I am posting three pictures:
1) The all black "before" interior. This pictures doesn't do it justice; in reality there was a lot of dry-rotting and cracks. (I remember Dave Swingle telling me at DMCH Open House that my car was a typical southern car: Sun damaged interior and a pristine underside; northern cars tend to be the opposite.) When I decided to re-do the interior I really wanted to get away from the cavernous, claustrophboc interior. I didn't like it.
2) "During" picture.
3) The "after" picture. The picture shows when I was 90% done. In the picture I had yet to glue down the carpeting, buy the (black) mats etc. Now two years later, I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Did you get the dash recovered? I'm also debating that.

This is still in progress but I'm doing a mixed interior right now:

Black/Dark: Carpets, Headliners, center console, armrest, coin tray, sun visors
Light/Grey: Dash, binnacle, knee pads, door panels, A pillar and B pillar trims, rear speaker panels
Custom: Two tone Steering wheel

Did the sound deadening help alot? Considering doing this. The stage 1 is a bit loud for my taste on the highway.

Are those the DMC two tone seats? Debating between grey and two tone. I love the wrinkled look on the grey which isnt available on the two tone :(

I've never really understood what the black interior was supposed to come with in terms of carpets or headliners or whatever. Mine seems to be a combo interior with a mix of each. My seats are black (and redone at some point as you can see), and much of the dash and console and knee pads are black, but the carpets seem pretty light as do my headliners. I put in a replacement cubby hole door and the dark coloured carpet on it was somewhat darker than the rest of the car. It's not pitch black, but it's not a the light grey either. I like it how it is though and my drinkholders add to that with the black plastic and light grey surface.

Good question.... As much as work as it was to install it, and given the (seemingly) marginal improvement - I'm not sure if it was worth the trouble.

Those are Hervey's two-tone seats. I absolutely love them.

That coincides/concurs with most of the other opinions that I've seen on such subject.

I can't remember who's car this is, but I took these pictures back in 2003. When looking between the door and seat in the 1st pic, it looks like the early dark grey carpet in mine.

The early dark grey carpet in mine isn't that dark....

I've got the stainless shifter ball, but might like yours better. I wanted the black stainless ball with silver shift pattern, but I don't think they are for sale anymore.

Just wanted to keep on this thread. I am right now getting quotes for a complete redo of my interior. All black except grey carpet and headliner. The car done in the Nappa is stunning and the only was id go all black, which is my preference. Bu it lt looks like the quotes im getting are upward of 8K. Did you guys do a mix of the leather and vinyl in some less visible areas? seat backs, a pillars etc. Also my center console is a bit rough so it needs to be reinforced and repaired. Very interesting feedback on the sound dampening.

one quick note, the owner of a local upholstery place came to look at the car today and quoted 500-700 PER HIDE off the nappa leather. he figures about 2500 in just material. Yikes

Yeah, I got my mats yesterday.

From DMCCA? Black mats? They were supposed to be holding those for me! I was there a few days later and "my" floor mats had disappeared.

That's okay - I got the next to last ever new passenger kneepad from Ed Uding last spring - I don't mind waiting.

How long ago was this? It was one of the few things they had in stock for me originally when I first got my car. Are they still out?

I tried all spring to find a proper knee pad - DMCH was supposed to be taking black NOS and dying them grey - but they never shipped them. Finally they said they were totally out and only had recovered ones without the ripple. I called around a bit and found them to be unavailable as NOS.

When I visited Ed Uding in May I asked if he had any - he had two left in black - never installed so I grabbed one immediatly. I redyed all of my grey vinyl anyway so it was no big deal getting it to match the rest. AFAIK he had one left in May and that was likely the end of NOS right side kneepads.

Wow,I had no idea they were so rare. Maybe I won't recover mine then...
