Has anyone every repainted the luggage compartment? The fiberglass is a little worn in spots and the PO put black silicone over everything. I was thinking stipping all that mess, sanding and repainting the whole compartment. Has anyone done this before? Also, what would be the best paint to use for the job? What would adhere to the material the best?

Thanks,

This is something I'm hoping to tackle myself sometime. Any tips on the best paint would be great!

You can use just about anything satin black. SEM Trim black, Rustoleum, probably even Krylon. Anything will look better than what's in there.

The hint is to remove all the old paint. It is lacquer, which means you can actually wipe it off with a ton of paper towels and a quart or two of lacquer thinner. Outdoors.

Some cars look great stripped to the gelcoat this way, but sometimes you'll find out that it was painted to hide the bondo filling voids in the fiberglass.

I always thought having the trunk Rino-Lined would look cool. It would make the trunk more "rugged".

That was on display at DCS.

A SEDOC member sanded his down to the fiberglass and then polished it. Looked top notch. I may have a picture somewhere.

What sort of paint is that? Satin black?

SEM trim black. Cant go wrong - very durable.

Save some $$$ and order 5 or 6 cans off ebay or amazon.

Sweet! Did you have to sand all surfaces to score it before you painted it?

Yes, I sanded with 150 thoroughly, used a vacuum with a brush to get a much dust as possible, then cleaned well with acetone.

Find a stand of free newspapers nobody is going to read, grab about 10 copies, and use them to mask everything off.

Usual painters tape where needed.

Very straightforward and yields very nice results.

I just did a total restoration on both the front and engine compartment. The absolute best and easiest way is acetone wash all of the fiberglass, scuff with scotch brite, acetone wash again, scotch brite again and one final acetone wipe. Mask, then apply a coat of bulldog adhesion promoter (19.00) and apply several coats of SEM trim black. You'll be very happy with the results, and I promise, after trial and error that this is the easiest and most rewarding method. Also this paint is very resistant to wear and chemicals, cleaning in the future. ATTACH]30509[/ATTACH]30510305113051230513 After 3051430515
