View Full Version : Original Spare Tire Rubber - Should I recycle it or is there interest in it?

I'm going to be replacing my original spare tire with fresh rubber soon, I have a new tire on order. I hate throwing away original parts, so before I think about doing so I wanted to see if original spare tire rubber has value to anyone out there. My tire appears to have never been used, it is clean and looks flawless without any cracks. Still, given its age, I'd never trust it enough to use. I'm sure there are thousands out there in similar condition.

So, what do you think - should I just have it recycled or do you think someone is out there who could use it?

I've seen them sell on eBay very quickly.

Aren't those with the rim though? I won't be selling the rim, just the rubber.

I'll be interested to see what you make happen here David, I kept mine too and am not sure why... or what to do with it.

As someone that used to hang onto junk parts among other things, I'm just going to leave this here...

Take it from me and just throw it away if you don't have an immediate or definitive use for it later on. With tires, try making yourself some awesome DeLorean huaraches.

One of many How-tos online (http://www.instructables.com/id/Blown-Tire-Shoes/)

Or at least cut the tread out, and go to a shoe repair place and see if they can resole some fancy sandals with your tire for a more refined look.

Who else at the car show or meet up is gonna have footwear MADE from an actual DeLorean?
