Well what I thought was a leaking rubber coolant line turns out to be a leaking metal line #10 to be exact: http://store.delorean.com/c-331-1-3-1-radiatorpiping.aspx

To me this line looks like it would be unique to our cars but I thought I would ask before I call DMCMW or DMCH. Have a few odds and ends I'd like to buy if I need to order this pipe. Gracias!

I'm pretty certain all the aluminum coolant pipes are DeLorean specific. This one especially since it has the small upper hose connection to the radiator. Bummer that yours was leaking...was it a corrosion related problem that caused the leak?

I had some pitting on nearly all of my coolant pipes on the outside where the rubber connections were attached. My otterstat pipe corroded completely through on one end so I had to replace the pipe. At that point my coolant hadn't been changed in at least 5 years though. I'll be replacing it every 2 from now on.

Corroded all the way through, that sucks major

My theory is that the anti-roll bar was rubbing on the line and has created a pin-hole sized leak (it's coming from the top of the pipe). No coolant escapes when the system is depressurized and the bar is sitting on it. Run the car and get the coolant flowing and a very slight dribble begins. Lift the anti-roll bar up off the pipe and it leaks more rapidly.

I'm trying to visualize how your pipe would have been routed so it was rubbing on the anti roll bar...it doesn't seem like it would be possible for it to hit the top of the pipe. This is how I have mine routed... Do you have a pic of how yours rubbed through?

Man I am an idiot!!! I misspoke; it's rubbing on the bottom of the coolant line not the top! The leak worsens when you push the anti-roll bar downward away from the coolant pipe. My car was lowered far too much at some point in the past, maybe that's why they're touching. Must not have drank enough coffee today... my mistake, I'll post a pic in a bit

Man oh man, Mark. Your under carriage is friggin' spotless! How do you keep it that clean? Ever driven your car in the rain? (and you're in Wisconsin?)

Thanks! I wish I could say it is always that clean. :D

That photo was taken mid rebuild of my frame and suspension...so it had seen zero miles at that point. If you look closely you'll notice the steering rack tie rod ends aren't even tightened into the knuckles yet. It's gotten a nice film of road dirt on it since then, but I'd much rather have fun driving it than worrying about keeping brake and suspension parts clean.

And yeah, rubbing on the bottom of the pipe make sense as the suspension travels. Those photos I posted show the car up on jack stands with the suspension hanging so the ARB sits closer to the coolant pipe when the car is on the ground.

Slacker. After this sort of rebuild you are supposed to windex the entire bottom of the car after every drive.

Ha Ha!
When I got my Harley back in the early 80's I did that after every ride. (Which was every day).
I've had my D now for just over 2 years and it doesn't get cleaned every day like it did in the beginning. :(

Oh damn, when Dave's calling you out you know you're in trouble. I promise I'll be better

It's actually not looking too dirty under there really. The first big trip I took the car on after all that work was down to DMCMW when I had you fix my A/C last fall. There was a big rain storm on my way down so it got a nice coating of dirt on everything right from the start.

I've got a bunch of maintenance I've been putting off so this winter when I get to it I'll have to take the wheels off and see how everything is looking under there.

Getting close to the other thread about project cars. The first thing that starts to get neglected is cleaning. Then maybe you don't use it so much. Now you skip on maintenance. Inevitably things break or malfunction. One day it won't go. Now the long sleep begins.
