View Full Version : Transmission Auto Torque Converter Install
This should be an easy question.
As I'm putting the torque converter into place, how many sets of splines need to engage.
A knowledgeable person told me two, but I'm confused why when looking at the shafts coming out of the transmission, I see three (103579 ,103580 ,103861 ).
Any tips for this install, to make sure it is fully seated?

It goes all the way on. You can take measurements of the transmission housing and the motor to make sure. Do not forget to stick the pump shaft in. Double-check the hollow dowel pins. Use plenty of lubricant on the convertor where the seal goes.

Yes, I would have assumed that.
Good tips on proper lubrication. I'll keep that in mind.
I found in the manual where it specifically says to keep spinning the converter until all three splines engage. So I suppose ill know its fully seated when I get three 'clunks'
You may not hear 3 individual clunks IE if the splines happen to be aligned, you will only hear one. Just trow a straight edge across the bell housing and make sure there is enough room for the flywheel. (You will actually have a bit extra room, and will wind up pushing the converter back toward the flywheel after the bell housing is seamed up.)
