I have to remove the original Craig W460 radio either for repair or to be changed.
Some articles say you can remove the radio via the air vents, others say you have to remove the centre console.
What is your advice on the best way to remove the radio?

It can be removed without removing the console. You disconnect it and wiggle it out the back to the passenger side while pushing the wires and hoses out of the way.

I strongly recommend to do the whole spiel and remove the center console to get enough space. I tried the vent trick, but it is awkward and I bent my fingers. It also increases the danger to pull other cables out (or the octopus, which happened to me) if you do not have enough space. And removing the center console is really not difficult.

That's a new one on me. I'd pull it thorough the vents.

I just did this.. vents works like a charm. the trickiest part is replacing the rubber ducting for the center vents after re-installation. Just take out the center vents by working the retaining clips from the outside with a thin screwdriver. Undo all the knobs and nuts that hold the radio in, push it back through it's opening, and lift it up and out through the now vacant vent opening. Very easy.
OH. You'll need to undo the back support strap that is bolted to the underside of the dash. you can't miss it. I recommend only unbolting it from the radio and leaving it attached to the dash for your new or repaired unit.

Getting that rubber boot back for the center vents can be *challenging*. Especially if it was not on properly and is now creased and bent. One way is to use a LONG thin screwdriver if the boot is still flexible enough. I agree the easiest way is to remove the whole center console. It isn't that much more work.

After pulling the vents out of the dash you can remove the adjustable vent sections from the vent frame by very carefully prying the outside edges of the vent frame slightly away from the grates and then pushing that side of the grates out the front. Make note of where the star shape plastic washers were used at the grate swivel points. Installing the empty frames in the dash makes it easy to adjust the rubber sleeves and then reinstall the grates making sure those plastic washers are installed correctly. Not hard to do and it makes the job much easier. Just be very careful, take your time and don't break anything. Rob Grady showed me that years ago.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I will have a go via the vents.
I am a new owner and although not unfamiliar with cars and their technical aspects the Delorean is a story apart, and I like it!!!
I hope I can post soon some pictures of my beautiful car and introduce myself.
