View Full Version : Engine water pump thermostat housing

Hello guys, I just want to sort out some doubts I have about the new water pump I bought:

volvo 264 pump for 4 bolts pulley:

at the moment I cannot compare the thermostat housing sizes with an original D pump, so I took a couple of measurements:

Any differences against the delorean pump?

I bought a delorean thermostat from a reliable vendor, sizes are 67mm for the upper diameter and 43mm for the bottom plate, but it seems to me that it can't work properly in this pump. also the gasket size seems wrong:

Looks fine to me.

I checked my old pump, and the measurements of 72 mm and 31 mm are correct.

The bottom plate of the thermostat needs to cover the holes in the housing, and not the entire diameter that you measured to 65 mm (i got a little less on the pump i checked.

Finally the gasket looks fine. You can't check it like in the picture. You need to fit it around the thermostat (there is a gab in the gasket)

Yes, that will stretch the gasket to the correct size. Don't let anyone talk you into using an o-ring there!

I knew that the gasket needs to be mounted on the thermostat's "edge", but I guessed that it had to completely fill the 72mm diameter, a pic to show what I mean:

One note about the thermostat. They used to always come with a bleeder hole with a brass valve. Not so much anymore. You need that hole so you can bleed the air. If you don't have a hole you can just drill a 1/16" hole.
